Scotland’s Hannah Rankin makes a historic defence of her WBA and IBO Super-Welterweight titles against Mexico’s Alejandra Ayala at the OVO Hydro on the 13th of May. Hannah created her own piece of Scottish history when she became the nation’s first female boxer to win a world title. She carves another unique piece of Scottish boxing history when she makes the first defence of her world titles in Scotland’s top arena. Hannah is the first female boxer to headline the OVO Hydro and this is a landmark moment for female boxing in Scotland.

In a career that began in 2017 without any amateur experience, Hannah has been the underdog. From a professional debut in a nightclub in London to travelling the world to face any challenge and force any opportunity. Every setback served as an opportunity to develop. Facing elite-level talents and former Olympians, to blazing her own trail and becoming Scotland’s history maker. This is Hannah’s Homecoming.

A fantastic ambassador for Scotland and an inspiration to a generation of female athletes looking to achieve their sporting dream is Hannah’s legacy. Headlining Scotland’s major arena is the perfect platform for this historically significant event.

Alejandra Ayala will prove a formidable opponent and travels to Scotland determined to upset the odds and create her own history. Mexico has a rich and proud boxing heritage, Alejandra is determined to join the long list of world champions and become the country’s first Super-Welterweight champion.

The undercard features a host of top Scottish talent ready to shine on the big stage and the chief support is a Commonwealth title contest as Scotland’s Nathaniel Collins (10-0) defends his title against Jacob Robinson (9-0) from Wales.

It serves as the classic ‘someone’s 0 must go’ as both men put their undefeated records on the line. Nathaniel has shown significant improvements with every performance since winning the title. Three consecutive knockout victories have established Nathaniel as one of Scotland’s top prospects and this is his breakthrough opportunity.

Jacob has a tremendous pedigree. His father Steve Robinson was the former Featherweight champion of the world, only losing his title to Prince Naseem Hamed. He takes a major step toward replicating his father’s success as he attempts to win one of the few titles that eluded his father.

It’s a bumper three weeks of boxing coming up for Fightzone subscribers, including World Championship Boxing from Glasgow.

On April 30th we are at Bolton Stadium and they have an explosive Cruiserweight clash topping the bill. IBO Champion Jack Massey (19-1) will face Vaclav Pejsar (19-12) from the Czech Republic over ten rounds.

Massey has been extremely impressive lately and will step into the ring full of confidence having disposed of his last two opponents by emphatic knockout.

Pejsar is definitely not to be underestimated and has knocked out fifteen of his opponents in his nineteen victories. He has also upset the odds in his previous visit to British shores, stopping the highly-rated Craig Glover within two rounds.

The stage is set for a hard-hitting showdown on April 30th complemented by a stacked undercard, featuring a host of top prospects and highly-ranked contenders.

The drama continues in Glasgow at the Crowne Plaza on May 6th with ‘A New Era’. Topping the bill is a highly-anticipated international showdown over ten rounds between Marios Matamba (12-1) and Kane Gardner (13-2).

Matamba is making his first appearance in the UK and carries a big reputation having stopped 10 of his opponents.

Gardner is a big step up in class for Matamba and also has knockout power, stopping seven of his opponents inside the distance and winning his last contest via fourth round stoppage.

It’s a return to Glasgow on May 13th at Scotland’s premier arena for the historic homecoming as Hannah Rankin defends her WBA and IBO Super-Welterweight titles against dangerous Mexican Alejandra Ayala.

Rankin is Scotland’s first female world champion and this is the first time a female boxer has headlined an event at the OVO Hydro. It’s been an incredible journey for Rankin who has risen to the top of female boxing in only five years as a professional.

Throughout that time Rankin has travelled the world in search of opportunities. From London to America, from Malta to South Africa, it really has been a worldwide apprenticeship. A few setbacks along the way and now she has the reward of returning to her country to headline and defend those world titles.

In the opposite corner is Alejandra Ayala who represents a formidable first defence. Boxing has a rich history of top-level Mexican boxers and Ayala will represent her country with great pride.

This is Ayala’s chance to create her own history by becoming Mexico’s first female Super-Welterweight champion and she is using this motivation to reach new levels in training. It is a fascinating world title contest.

The event is supported by one of the strongest undercards in Scottish boxing history.

Scotland’s David Jamieson will get the toughest test of his career on a historic night of boxing at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro Arena on May 13, with all the action broadcast LIVE by Fightzone.

Topping the bill with be Scotland’s first-ever women’s world champion, Hannah Rankin, defending her WBA and IBO World Super Welterweight belts versus aggressive Mexican fighter, Alejandra Ayala, in what will be an absolute war. Hannah will also make history again on the night by becoming the first female fighter to headline a major boxing promotion ‘North of the Border’.

The undercard features some of Scotland’s best talent – including Commonwealth Featherweight Champion Nathaniel Collins defending his belt against Wales’ unbeaten Jacob Robinson – and has now been bolstered by big-punching cruiserweight Jamieson against England’s Dec Spelman.

With just one early career defeat – to top-rated Mikael Lawal – in nine fights, East Kilbride’s Jamieson has earned himself the tag as one of Britain’s hottest 14st 4lbs prospects with some devastating performances, including five big KOs.

In February, the 30-year-old moved up the world rankings by picking up the IBO International Cruiserweight Title with a 10 round win over tough Swede Samo Jangirov – and it’s this prize he will put on the line against Englishman Spelman.

Also 30, Spelman will be a true litmus test for Jamieson to see if the Scot really does have the makings of a future star. A former English light heavyweight belt-holder, Dec has lost just five of 22 and, crucially, has the valuable experience of sharing a ring with some of the UK’s best fighters including Anthony Yarde and Lyndon Arthur.

“This is absolutely my toughest test – this is a huge step up and it’s what I’ve been asking for,” explained the Scot.  “It’s domestic opposition and it’s going to show just where I’m at.

“Dec is well know on the British circuit and this will be a real good scalp if I beat him. Anthony Yarde has fought at the top, is very heavy-handed and is the only guy to stop him, so this is a proper fight and it would be a right statement to stop him too.

“I’m a big cruiserweight though and ten rounds is a long time. I’m the bigger, physically stronger man and in the middle and later rounds it will get heavy weather for him.

“Anyone who knows anything about boxing and the way myself and Dec go about our business will know this is going to be a war. I’m not going to have to go looking for him and this is going to be some fight to watch!

“I can’t wait, it’s a massive show for Scotland. I’m just a few miles down the road, so I’ll be taking a few coachloads and we’ll take the roof off the place!”

A mouth-watering all-British clash has been added to the undercard of Hannah Rankin’s double world title defence at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro Arena on May 13, with all the action broadcast LIVE by Fightzone.

On the historic night – the first major boxing show in Scotland to be headed by a woman – Rankin will put her WBA and IBO World Super Welterweight belts on the line in a guaranteed thriller against tough Mexican, Alejandra Ayala.

Rankin is one of the world’s premier women fighters.  A two-time and now double world title holder, the 31-year-old is in career best form after beating Sweden’s Maria Lindberg in November last year to claim the vacant super welterweight belts.

Ayala has won 14 of 19, with eight KOs and will bring to the ring an aggressive, come-forward Mexican style.  This will be the North American’s first attempt at claiming world honours and the 33-year-old will be determined to cause an upset in front of Hannah’s home crowd.

It can now be announced that the night will also host a fantastic clash between Wales’ Jacob Robinson and Scotland’s Nathaniel ‘The Nightmare’ Collins – with the home fighter’s Commonwealth Flyweight Title up for grabs.

Collins looks like a bona fide star in the making.  The Bearsden man has been absolutely punch-perfect in moving to 10-0, with five KOs, which included claiming the Commonwealth crown in just his eighth pro outing.

Despite all the plaudits, Nathaniel will have to be at his very best to come through the Robinson test.  The Cardiff man has also looked awesome since turning over in 2017. Jacob has yet to taste defeat at 9-0 and became the Welsh Flyweight king in his last fight.

On what is already a huge night of Scottish boxing, this match has all the makings of something pretty special.

“This is going to be a really good fight,” said Champion Collins. “Our styles will gel and it’ll turn into a great one.  I’ve seen his last fight when he won the Welsh Title so know a bit about what he does and doesn’t like.

“It’ll end up a bit of a war between us with me chasing him, but when it gets to the later rounds it’ll be a fight.  He’s not going to be able to box for the whole 12 rounds and I’ll catch up with him.

“I fought a Scottish boy in my fifth fight but since then it’s been all overseas fighters, so it’ll be great to fight another domestic fighter and it’s a step up.  If I win then I’ll hopefully be in for a British Title shot, but he’ll be thinking the same. If I can’t beat this guy then I’m not going to win the British, so it’s all to play for.”

“It’s early days but already this card is stacking up to be one of the best shows that Scotland will have seen and demand for tickets has been phenomenal,” said Asif Vali, Chief Operating Officer at Fightzone.

“Hannah’s fight with Ayala is going to be a real war because both are always in exciting fights.  And to be able to confirm this Scotland versus Wales battle between Nathaniel and Jacob for the prestigious Commonwealth belt is fantastic news for Scottish fight fans.  Someone’s ‘0’ has got to go and it could be the headline fight all on its own!”

MTK Global will head back to the Vale Sports Arena in Cardiff next month – with some of the very best talent from Wales and beyond on display.

The event will be a co-promotion between MTK Global and Mo Prior’s Priority Promotions, and will be broadcast around the world live on IFL TV.

The card features a clash between Jacob Robinson (8-0, 2 KOs) and Angelo Dragone (5-2), which pending approval from the British Boxing Board of Control, is set to be for the Welsh Area featherweight title.

Former British and Commonwealth champion Akeem Ennis Brown (14-1, 1 KO) returns, while two-time Commonwealth Games medallist Sean McGoldrick (10-1, 3 KOs) has another date pencilled in, following his return to the ring at York Hall this Friday.

Heavyweight Miles Gordon (2-0) makes his long-awaited comeback after nearly five years out, plus Ethan George will fight in Wales for the first time as a professional.

Rashid Omar, Kyran Jones (1-0) Mano Lee (4-2, 1 KO) and Ben Crocker will all be on the bill too, in what looks set to be another action-packed evening in Cardiff.

MTK Global Promoter Lee Eaton said: “We’re pleased to be working with Mo Prior to bring this event to Wales next month. Cardiff is a brilliant fight city and we’ve had some great shows there in the past, so we’re excited to return for the first time since the pandemic.

“Jacob Robinson vs. Angelo Dragone is set to be a cracker, plus with big names like Akeem Ennis Brown and Sean McGoldrick on the card, along with some of the best prospects that Wales has to offer, it should be a tremendous night of boxing from start to finish.”

More news on the event in Cardiff will be announced in the coming days and weeks.
