Jason Moloney vs. Joshua Greer Jr.

Jason Moloney (22-2, 18 KOs) claimed a unanimous decision win over Joshua Greer Jr. (22-3-2, 12 KOs) to win the World Boxing Council Silver Bantamweight title on a Top Rank card at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Just over nine months after losing to Japan’s Naoya Inoue, Australia’s Moloney re-entered the world title scene, bouncing back with a comprehensive decision over Chicago`s Greer.

Moloney, a two-time world title contender, warmed up after a slow start and caught Greer with his crisp counter-punching plus precise attacks to his body. Now the WBC Silver Champion is looking for a shot at a third world title.

Josh Franco and Andrew Moloney successfully made weight as they get ready for their WBA super-flyweight title fight tomorrow night.

The Top Rank event takes place at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Saturday, and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

The weigh-in took place on Friday, and saw defending champion Franco (17-1-2, 8 KOs) come in at 114.2lbs, with Moloney weighing 114.8lbs.

It sees the duo meet for the third time, after Franco came out on top in the first meeting, while the second fight ended in a no decision after there was ruled to be an accidental headbutt.

Elsewhere on the card, unbeaten Arnold Barboza (25-0, 10 KOs) meets Antonio Moran (26-4-1, 19 KOs), with Barboza looking to extend his unbeaten record. Barboza weighed in at 139.8lbs, and Moran was lighter at 139lbs.

Fight Notes: Referee stopped the fight after Brook taking a count after the ropes kept Brook up. Ref gave him a chance but Crawford unloaded as Brook reeled across the ring and the referee stopped the fight with him unable to defend himself. Time of the stoppage was 1:14 of round 4.

“Never in my career, nobody has ever done that to me in sparring or anything,” Brook said.
 
“It was one of them… I got caught with a shot I didn’t see. I’m gutted because nobody could’ve gotten me in better condition. I was bang on the limit. Maybe I could’ve been a bit more relaxed and loose and let the shots go.”

Bob Arum of Top Rank: “Terence Crawford showed, once again, why he is the best welterweight in the world. It was a dominating performance over a very good fighter in Kell Brook. Terence ranks up there with all the great welterweights I’ve promoted.”

Fight Notes: Ref ruled accidental head but round 1 causing bad swelling to Franco. Fight stopped on the bell of the beginning of round 3, with the doctor advising to stop the fight. As four rounds were not completed the bout is a no decision. The decision was checked via replays for approx 30 min with the ND staying in place.

Andrew Moloney: “I hit him with a jab early in the first round … and I hit him another 50 times. That’s why his eye’s shut, not the head-butt. There’s not a head-butt. … I can’t believe they took this away from me. I trained my ass off for the last five months, I’ve been away from my family, and they just take it away from me like this.”

Bob Arum: ”They waited until the end of the fight and they kept with it to protect the referee who didn’t know what the hell he was doing.

”I am absolutely disgusted…I just want a fair adjudication, they made a mistake, the referee made a mistake. It’s clear, it’s not even close.”
