With a filmic finish, Kali “Ko Mequinonoag” Reis retained the World Boxing Association super lightweight belt against Canadian Jessica Camara. This bout took place at the Road to Undisputed at the SNHU Arena, in Manchester, New Hampshire, United States.

It was a very tough fight between the two fighters who were competing for Kali’s WBA championship and the vacant WBO title.

Camara started the fight in a good way, putting the champion in trouble, but in the second half of the bout she managed to bring out her ancestral warrior spirit.

After the ten rounds were completed, the judges decided in a split decision: two by 97-93 saw the American Reis win while one by 95-94 ruled in favor of Camara.

Thus, the 140 lbs. WBA champion, not only improved her record to 19 wins with 5 knockouts, 7 setbacks and 1 draw, but she will also be the eventual contender of Chantelle Cameron for all the belts of the division in 2022.

Demetrius Andrade delivered the explosive KO win he promised as he destroyed Jason Quigley in just two rounds of the fifth defense of his WBO World Middleweight title at the SNHU Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire, live worldwide on DAZN.

Andrade started with his customary fire, with a blistering attack at the end of the first round flooring a stunned Quigley – another challenger to hit the canvas at the start of an Andrade World title defense.

This time though, Andrade would not let the fight go deep, and two more knockdowns saw the referee save the Irishman from further punishment after 2.24 of round two – Andrade delivering the sort of thrilling display of power, spite and precision that he’s been told to do to land the big fights he craved.

“I did what I said I would do, I looked good and felt good,” said Andrade. “I delivered a message tonight – what’s next and who’s next.

“Every time I get in the ring, I do something different, and I can do it all, and whatever I need. Patience. So many times, you see people get knocked down and then they knock the other guy down. So, I keep patient in there and wait for the shots to land. But you asked for KOs, and I give you KOs so let’s go.

“I’m 31-0, Olympian and World champion, so what more do I need to do?”

A wild start to the long-awaited clash between WBC World Flyweight champion Julio Cesar Martinez and interim champion McWilliams Arroyo was sadly cut short after an accidental head clash left Arroyo with a nasty cut under the eyebrow of his right eye, and the referee was forced to call a No Contest.

Puerto Rican Arroyo started in stunning fashion, flooring Martinez early in the opening round, but the champion exacted immediate revenge and put Arroyo on the canvas at the end of the round. The Mexican put Arroyo down once again in the second round before the unfortunate clash of heads that ended a contest that was more than living up to its billing.

Murodjon Akhmadaliev retained his WBA and IBF World Super-Bantamweight titles with victory over game late-replacement Jose Velasquez. ‘MJ’, who was due to meet WBA mandatory challenger Ronny Rios, but Velasquez stepped in after Rios was ruled out with COVID and the Chilean showed he belonged on a big stage and will be seen again – but Akhmadaliev was also comfortable throughout and banked 12 more rounds in just his tenth pro outing and landed the win 119-109 on all three cards.

There will be an undisputed champion at 140lbs in 2022 – and it is Kali Reis who will face Chantelle Cameron for all the belts at Super-Lightweight as she edged out Jessica Camara via split decision. American Reis and Canadian served up royal entertainment for the fans in keeping with the recent run of high drama women’s world title fights, and Reis got the nod on the cards (97-93, 94-96, 97-93) and then faced-off with Briton Cameron in the ring afterwards to start the countdown to their battle next year.

“I thought I won the fight,” said Reis. “Jessica put up a brilliant fight, but I do feel I did the cleaner work. I’m so happy and I can’t wait to fight for the undisputed fight next year, that’s my dream.”

Reis (18-7-1 5 KOs) was in London and working on the DAZN broadcast as Chantelle Cameron booked her spot for a 2022 undisputed fight at 140lbs with victory at The O2 over Mary McGhee, and now Reis and Camara (8-2) battle to meet the Briton for all the marbles.

Reis didn’t just travel to watch the bout though, getting plenty of sparring in while across the pond as she moved towards the end of her camp for her eighth World title bout in a 26-fight career to date.

The 35 year old, who wrote and starred in a feature film titled Catch the Fair One, is eager to land the undisputed title in double quick time as she looks to achieve as much as possible in the game before pursuing more work in the film industry – but ‘Mequinonoag’ says that can wait as she eyes being the star attraction on Friday night and setting up the Cameron fight in style.

“Jessica hasn’t been at 140lbs or in the rankings as she’s been at 130lbs and 135lbs,” said Reis. “But she’s coming in off an excellent win against Heather Hardy, one of the pioneers of women’s boxing in this era, whose only loss was to Amanda Serrano who is one of the best to ever do it – so she’s dangerous, I know that.

“She’s improved from her loss to Melissa St. Vil too so I don’t overlook any opponent, and this is boxing, anything can happen. I commentated on her last two fights, and I give huge respect to her for stepping up and taking this opportunity, as there’s a lot of fighters out there that want to pick and choose fights and not step-up, but Jessica has stepped up so respect to her for that and she’s here for a reason, she wants to become undisputed too.

“She’s a lighter fighter coming up so she’ll have hand speed and fast feet, she doesn’t have as much pressure in a way as I have the titles to defend so maybe the pressure is off her, but as I said when I commentated on her, she has the composure of a veteran, it’s amazing, she had a huge hematoma on her head from the first round against St Vil and she didn’t bat an eye at that and against a legend like Hardy, she did her job, she’s very composed, she has great fundamentals and fast hands.

“I was in London to train but I am in this tournament, so my eyes were wide open for that fight. I was there to see potential opponents live and it was better being there, seeing them at the presser, the weigh-in and around the hotel, the whole energy around the event. We’ve been talking about fight Chantelle for a while now and it was a dream fight for fans in the US and UK. I like how she carries herself and to see her in person was great, she was nothing short of what I expected, she’s a delight to be around and she’s a very determined fighter, and you feel her energy when you are around her.

“Chantelle is a really good boxer and has that killer instinct that you cannot teach. She did what I thought she would do, and it was a great performance, but everybody is beatable including myself, I saw a lot but ultimately, she got the job done in good style.

“I spent a good week in London, we trained and sparred, Noel Callan, Hannah Rankin’s trainer, hooked us up and I think we had 40 rounds in three days, so we definitely got that work in! It’s becoming a regular trip, it’s the third time this year that I’ve been to the UK ahead of fights, it makes sense as you get the quality work over there.

“We have great sparring in America too, most of my sparring is with guys but we do have some females come in, but they come one time and they don’t come back, so it’s hard to get consistent quality sparring in Philadelphia. The only other quality sparring I get is with Katie Taylor when I am in Rhode Island but now I live and train in Philly it’s hard to do that.

“My Native American name is ‘Mequinonoag’ which means ‘many feathers’ or ‘many talents’ and my mother named me correctly, I’m blessed to have this personality where I am fascinated by art and storytelling and all aspects of life, and I don’t see just one path, your journey has many, many paths.

“So the acting and storytelling came to me and I am definitely going to explore it and see what kind of ‘World championships’ I can get in that world too, so you will definitely see me on the big screen again because boxing is a short career and while I have more to do in the sport, it’s a brutal one and I don’t want to outstay my welcome, so when the time comes to gracefully bow out I want to have my wits about me so I can do all these other things after boxing.

“Demetrius and I have known each other since we were young, we’re two Cape Verdean kids from Rhode Island. He started fighting way before I did, and I saw him as a teenager going to do great things as an amateur and we have trained together lots and we have the same strength and conditioning coach. We know each other very well, he’s my brother from another mother and it’s so awesome that we are finally fighting on the same card.”

Chantelle Cameron is on a scouting mission this week as the WBC, IBF and Ring Magazine World Super-Lightweight champion hits the east coast to watch Kali Reis and Jessica Camara on Friday November 19 at the SNHU Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire live worldwide on DAZN – in a clash for the right to fight Cameron for the undisputed title in 2022.

Cameron (15-0 8 KOs) touched down in Mexico City yesterday to attend the WBC Convention and rub shoulders with some of her fellow holders of the famous green and gold belt, and on Wednesday she’ll arrive in New Hampshire to take an up close and personal look at the second installment of the road to undisputed as Reis (18-7-1 5 KOs) takes on Camara (8-2) for the WBA and vacant WBO straps.

Cameron booked her spot in the showcase fight for next year with victory in London over Mary McGhee in an all-action battle at The O2 a fortnight ago, just one of many breathless and exciting women’s World title bouts that have thrilled fans in recent weeks in the UK and America.

The 30 year old expects Reis and Camara to pick up the baton and leave it all in the ring on Friday night, but believe that it will be the American Reis that she’ll go toe-to-toe with for all the marbles next year.

“I think Kali will win on Friday night,” said Cameron. “Jessica is great opposition, a great fighter and tough as they come but I think Kali has the edge – she’ll land cleaner shots, move better and is a technically superior and will win it on points, but I’m excited because it will be a good fight.

“There’s been so many great women’s fights recently, the world title fights are always explosive over the two minute rounds, and I think this will be another one of them.

“I’ve been back in training already last week and getting ready to see who wins, and then I’ll up the levels again as I will know who I am preparing for.

“It was a great fight with Mary, I’ve watched it back couple of times, we put on a good show. It showed that I am improving with every fight, and it was a perfect fight to show those improvements and that I listen and take the instructions well from Jamie Moore.

“I’m getting better and better, and it’s coming in bigger and bigger fights, I don’t want to go stale or get complacent so it’s not just about winning fights but also about performance, that’s important to me.

“It’s so important for me to come out here. I’ll be in New Hampshire on Wednesday, and it’ll be good to see Kali and Camara not just on fight night but on the scales too and just around the hotel. I need to be 100 per cent prepared for the winner and you cannot beat being there in person, watching it on TV is a lot different. You get to see how they handle their business for fight week at the press conference and weigh-in as well as on the night, on my week I was so relaxed and no matter what Mary was doing or saying, I kept my cool and took care of myself, you can’t get under my skin as I am too focused on my job.

“I’m really looking forward to the whole week, I’ve never been to Mexico before, so I am looking forward to meeting the other WBC champions and spending time there too.”

Quigley (19-1 14 KOs) is the second Irishman to try to take the crown from Andrade (30-0 18 KOs) after Luke Keeler was stopped in the ninth round of his attempt in Miami in January 2020, and now the 30 year old tries to work out the Rhode Island puzzle that no pro has been able to solve so far against the two weight champion.

The Donegal man landed in Boston over the weekend before making the short drive up to Manchester for the biggest night of his career, and legions of Irish fight fans are expected to make that trip along with fans from New York and Ireland itself, and that’s the kind of backing Quigley believes can get him over the line on the night – but he’s staying calm and treating it like every other fight he’s had.

“It’s going to be very exciting,” said Quigley. “There’s nothing like the Irish fans and I cannot really imagine what it’s going to be like come fight night. We all know how loud and proud they are and that’s giving me more excitement, and these are the types of things as well that can get fighters through a difficult period of a fight.

“When you are in the ring and you are hurt, you go down, something is not going to plan – when you hear the crowd roaring you on that can give you the extra lift and percentage to get you over the line. Hopefully it won’t come to that, but I know that the support is going to be there and I’m grateful for the fans that have been messaging me and that are coming to the fight.

“In the build-up to the fight it’s about controlling emotions, the nervous energy, you have the natural excitement inside of course, but I have a job to do on November 19, to get in there and take care of business. That’s been the mindset for me, I have prepared as hard for this fight as any other that I’ve had.

“Of course, there’s more on the line than before, but it has to be business as usual. I have thoughts and visions of winning the belt and I am glad, because that shows that I have the self-belief that I can win this fight.”

The World Boxing Association (WBA) super lightweight champion, American Kali “KO Mequinonoag” Reis, is on the verge of fulfilling her golden dream and it all begins on November 19 in New Hampshire, where she will fight Jessica Camara from Canada in defense of the pioneer body’s crown.

DAZN along with Matchroom, with Eddie Hearn and Lou DiBella, launched the ROAD TO UNDISPUTED event, which will have its first date on October 30 in London with a showdown between Chantelle Cameron and Mary McGee.

In this new women’s championship, in which four powerful women will be looking to be the undisputed super lightweight female champion, the owner of the black and gold belt, Reis, expressed the importance of this tournament for women’s boxing, since they are not commonly seen.

In a relaxed chat with the pioneer organization, Reis expressed: “I feel very proud to be WBA champion and I want to defend my belt successfully. I am preparing for it. With great enthusiasm, “KO Mequinonoag”, which means “many feathers” or “many talents”, added that she feels very good and solid in the work done with her team and that she spends many hours in the gym. She even defined it as a new marriage.

Reis has shown a boxing maturity with the passing of time. Proof of this was her victory last November 2020, when she unanimously won the WBA 140 belt against Kandi Wyatt. In August she defeated the difficult Diana Prazak when she made the first defense of the WBA belt and added the IBO.

When talking about who will be her first opponent on the road to becoming undisputed, Reis reiterated the words she gave at the opening press conference, referring to the surprise she felt at Jessica Camara’s performance in her last fight against Heather Hardy: “she is really up for this kind of challenge, to go for big things just like me”, and added that although “it is difficult to be nice when you are facing such a competitive commitment, there is a lot of respect and camaraderie between us”. The WBA champion said she was very excited to be part of this great competitive show, unprecedented for women in boxing.

In addition, this 2021 she had the great film debut by being one of the protagonists of a very special film for her in which violence, disappearance of people and human rights in respect of native peoples in the United States are shown.

“My roots keep me connected to nature and I love it. I believe in a higher, creative energy that connects us to everything. We are all surrounded by good and bad energies. Currently, as part of my preparation, I find myself learning to meditate and stay in the present moment with what is happening around me,” said Reis who in a relaxed manner confessed to not having many problems with food, as her diet has always been plant-based as a way of life.

“Everyone’s goal is to be undisputed, so to be part of this after 13 years in the professional game…This is what I have been fighting for all this time,” said with great excitement Kali “KO Mequinonoag” Reis who will have her next challenge against Jessica Camara on November 19. Canadian Camara last defeated Heather Hardy. She will face Reis, in what will be her first world opportunity, with 8 wins and 2 losses. While Rice has 18 wins, 7 losses and 1 draw.

Andrade (30-0 18 KOs) puts his crown on the line for the fifth time and the Rhode Island star will be looking for a statement win as he hunts the unification blockbusters with his fellow belt holders at 160lbs. The 33 year old, who picked up the vacant strap in his first fight with Eddie Hearn in Boston in October 2018, will make it five straight fights with European challengers when he steps through the ropes against Quigley.

Quigley (19-1 14 KOs) moved into prime position to land a World title shot in May by beating Golden Boy stablemate Shane Mosley Jr by majority decision in a thriller in Las Vegas, and the former amateur star becomes the second Irishman to challenge ‘Boo Boo’ after Luke Keeler took on the WBO ruler in Miami in January 2020.

“November 19, it’s me again,” said Andrade. “Jason Quigley, world rated, good amateur pedigree, decent skills, comes to fight, and hats off to him, he’s actually willing to step in the ring with me, which you can’t say for any of these other so-called top guys. On November 19 though I show him that there are levels to this game.

Just keep winning, that’s all I can do. Go in there, handle my business, do my job, look sensational, come out healthy and then it’s onto the next. If you have a belt at 160 or 168 lbs, let’s go. Put the politics aside, have your people call Eddie. Let’s get down to business. Charlo, stop running your mouth, making up excuse after excuse. You’re a fighter, let’s fight bro. GGG, where you at? Unify against Murata and then let’s put the three belts on the line next year.

“Canelo you going to run up to 175? Cool, I can meet you there, no problem. First things first though, I need to go out on November 19, defend my championship belt, and put on a spectacular performance, and that’s exactly what I plan on doing.”

“I’ve worked my whole career to get into this position of becoming world champion,” said Quigley. “Demetrius is a great champion but now it’s my time and that World title is coming back to Ireland.”

Three more World title fights in support of Andrade’s clash with Quigley are led by Murodjon Akhmadaliev defending his IBF and WBA World Super Bantamweight titles against Ronny Rios.

Akhmadaliev (9-0 7 KOs) was at his spiteful best last time out, putting the challenge of Ryosuke Iwasa to bed in the fifth round of his first professional outing in his homeland of Uzbekistan. ‘MJ’, who became unified champion in just his eighth fight in the paid ranks by ripping the belts from Daniel Roman, puts the belts on the line for the second time in New Hampshire and does so against his WBA mandatory challenger and #1 in the rankings.

Rios (33-3 16 KOs) is in great form heading into his second World title challenge, heading to the east coast on the back of four wins, the latest being the only one to go the distance in February in Indio, California with a wide points win over Oscar Negrete.

“I would like to thank my promoters Eddie Hearn and Andrei Ryabinsky for the opportunity to defend my titles in New Hampshire,” said Akhmadaliev. “I’m living and training in Indio, so I know how people love and appreciate boxing here.

“It will be my second mandatory challenger in a row, he’s a good fighter and I expect it to be a great fight for everybody to enjoy! As always, I’m working hard with my coaches Antonio and Joel Diaz, and we’ll be prepared to defend what belongs to us!”

“Who is the best to beat at my weight class? It’s MJ so I am here to challenge myself with this task and I’m confident in my ability and my team to come out victorious,” said Rios. “On November 19th you will see a new world champion added to the Golden Boy stable”

The third world title fight is pits Mexico vs. Puerto Rico and it’s the long-awaited showdown between Julio Cesar Martinez and McWilliams Arroyo.

Mexican Martinez (18-1 14 KOs) returned to action in typically entertaining fashion in June, stopping Joel Cordova in Guadalajara to successfully defend his WBC World Flyweight title for the third time. It will be third time lucky for the Arroyo clash, with Covid squashing the first attempt to pit them together in Tulsa in May 2020 and then a hand injury to Martinez ruled him out in fight week when they were due to clash on the undercard of Canelo Alvarez’s clash with Avni Yildirim in Miami in February.

Puerto Rican Arroyo (21-4 16 KOs) was able to taste action that night and picked up the Interim title at the home of the Miami Dolphins with a fifth round win over Abraham Rodriguez, and will be desperate to upgrade and rip the full title from Martinez as they finally get to tangle.

“It is great that we are finally able to get this fight,” said Martinez. “We have tried twice to do it but that’s all in the past and now we’re going to go to war on October 16.

“McWilliams is a strong challenger for the belt but I feel fantastic and I am ready to prove that I am the man to beat at Flyweight.”

“This fight has been asked for and the fans will finally get a great battle on November 19,” said Arroyo. “I hope he will come prepared because I am going to be 100 per cent ready and confident that I will be victorious.”

The fourth World title bout on the bill is the second step on the path to crowing an undisputed women’s champion at 140lbs as Kali Reis takes on Jessica Camara for the WBA, IBO and vacant WBO straps.

Two-weight champion Reis (18-7-1 5 KOs) added the IBO title to her WBA crown last time out with a majority decision win over Australian Diana Prazak, and the Rhode Island champion and former WBC Middleweight ruler will be looking to add another title through victory over Camara (8-2), the Canadian that bounced back from defeat to Melissa St Vil with a confidence boosting win over Heather Hardy in May – and the stakes couldn’t be higher with the winner set to face the victor of the with October 30 clash between WBC champion Chantelle Cameron and IBF champion Mary McGee at The O2 in London, England.

“I am in this tournament to collect all of the belts and become undisputed champion,” said Reis. “I want to thank DAZN, Lou DiBella and Eddie Hearn for this tremendous opportunity,” said Kali Reis. “Jessica is a talented fighter, but she will not deter me from achieving my goal. No one will.”

Matchroom Boxing, in partnership with DiBella Entertainment, announce today that the Undisputed Super-Lightweight crown will be put on the line as Chantelle Cameron, Mary McGee, Kali Reis and Jessica Camara fight it out for 140lbs supremacy, live on DAZN.

Cameron (14-0, 8 KOs) displayed an impressive performance last time out in her maiden WBC World Title defence, beating former champion Melissa Hernández by TKO in the fifth round to retain the green and gold strap and continue her flawless record since turning professional in 2017.

Mary ‘Merciless’ McGree (27-3, 15 KOs) comes into the fight with increased momentum, notching seven straight wins since her World Title loss in 2013 and picking up the IBF Super-Lightweight Title on the way. The American’s last win came via a ninth round TKO against Deanha Hobbs to retain her crown.

American two-weight World Champion Kali Reis (18-7-1, 5 KOs) retained her WBA World Title and won the vacant IBO Super-Lightweight belt in August 2021 in a convincing unanimous decision against Australian challenger Diana Prazak at Sycuan Casino, California.

‘The Cobra’ Jessica Camara (8-2) beat former World Champion Heather Hardy impressively last time out, scoring a unanimous decision to hand the Hardy her second career loss and dramatically boost the Canadian’s ranking in the 140lbs division.

American Kali Reis won the World Boxing Association (WBA) Female Boxer of the Month award thanks to her excellent performance in defense of her 140 lbs. crown.

The WBA’s August women’s rankings were published at the beginning of the month and with it the award that Reis won thanks to her victory over Diana Prazak on August 20, in El Cajon, California.

The 35-year-old veteran made her first defense of the black and gold belt against the Australian and used all her tools to win a unanimous decision against a tough and challenging fighter.

Reis improved her record to 18 wins, 7 losses, 1 draw and 5 knockouts. Now, she looks forward to new challenges to defend her title.

TONIGHT! at the Sycuan Casino Resort in El Cajon, California, Split-T Management’s Kali Reis will make the first defense of her WBA Super Lightweight world title when she takes on Diana Prazak in the headline bout of a UFC Fight Pass streamed card (11 PM ET / 8 PM PT).

Reis of Providence, Rhode Island, has a record 17-7-1 with five knockouts.

Reis, who is managed by Brian Cohen, won the title on November 6, 2020 with an exciting 10-round unanimous decision over Kandi Wyatt in Saint Petersburg, Florida.

Reis, who is also a former WBC Middleweight world champion has wins over Maricela Cornejo (4-1) and Patricia Juarez (4-1).

Prazak of Melbourne, Australia has a record of 14-3 with nine knockouts, won the WBA Super Featherweight title with an 8th round stoppage over Frida Wallberg on June 14, 2013 in Sweden. She defended the title once with a 5th round stoppage over Shannon O’Connell (8-2). Prazak also has wins over Siriphon Chanbuala (10-0-1) and Fatuma Zarika (23-5-1). Prazak is coming off a unanimous decision over Milagros Gabriela Diaz on March 13th in Tijuana, Mexico.

At Thursday’s weigh-in, Reis weighed 139.2 lbs. Prazak was 138.2 lbs.

After the excitement of the release of the movie Catch the Fair One where she was a lead actress, native American Kali Reis returns to the ring. Nicknamed “KO Mequinonoag” because of her roots, Reis will seek to defend her World Boxing Association 140-pound belt against Australian-born Diana Prazak. The fight will take place on August 20 at the Sycuan Casino in El Cajon, California, USA.

In a strong card promoted by Lou DiBella, Kali Reis (17-7-1,5 KO’s), current WBA super lightweight world champion, who defeated Canadian Kandi Wyatt on November 6, 2020, will make her first defense and will be looking to win the vacant IBO belt. The opponent will be Diana Prazak (14-3-0,9kos) who was a former super featherweight world champion and returned to fight, after six years, in the welterweight division with a six-round win over Milagros Diaz in March last year.

In a complementary bout, Reis’ former opponent, Kandi “Krush” Wyatt (10-2-0-0,3kos) will go for a new opportunity: she will face Mexican Alma “La Conquistadora” Ibarra (8-1-0,4kos). This will be a WBA world eliminator bout at 147 lbs. The winner of the bout will be the mandatory challenger to undisputed champion Jessica McCaskill.

We have seen her being part of great boxing events, such as the one against Cecilia Braekhus when both left a mark in history: the first female fight broadcasted by HBO.

Kali “KO Mequinonoag” Reis became World Boxing Association super lightweight champion in 2020 and she is waiting for the first defense of her title in August in Atlanta, United States, with an opponent to be confirmed.

But first we will see her on the big screen in June with the premiere of “Catch The Fair One” where she will be the protagonist of the film.

At the end of the official trailer, Reis is caught in a close-up where her gaze crosses the screen and takes over the sensory to let us know that she will never give up.

In Catch The Fair One, the world champion stars as a former boxer who must face the toughest fight of her life: finding her missing sister.

Reading the synopsis of the film, one can only think of Reis in real life, where she leads a strong fight in favor of the rights of indigenous peoples as well as the visibility of the enormous number of women, girls, boys and men who are missing or victims of violence. In the film to be released on June 13th, Reis will make another act of awareness through fiction.

The name ‘Mequinonoag’ was given to Reis as her native name. This name was given by her mother, our tribal medicine woman Seaconke Wampanoag, and means “many feathers” or “many talents.” Reis expresses pride in her native ancestry and carries this name with her in every fight.

Since she was a child, she has always practiced different sports until she decided to take boxing lessons at the age of 14 when she started at Manfredo’s Gym in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, where she was trained by a friend of her mother, Domingo Talldog. Over time she achieved great triumphs in the amateur until she reached the professional field when she managed to become the first Native American woman to become world champion: in 2016 she defeated Maricela Cornejo and conquered the WBC belt in the middleweight category.

In addition, at 34 years old with 25 fights, Reis gives motivational talks, as well as open trainings for native women and girls to whom she teaches how to defend themselves. And among her many qualities, Kali Reis is a certified motorcycle mechanic. A passion that has been with her since she was a child.

The multifaceted WBA 140 lbs. champion is looking forward to new achievements in 2021 with the release of the movie and her first defense of the black and gold belt.

A year that began with a scattered activity along with a thousand programs ahead. All suspended by force majeure. Boxing entered a break of more than six months that, despite the difficulties, managed to be fruitful, an energetic recharge to come back with the gloves on. Women took center stage in 2020 and were able to show the results of a maturing process which led to the spectacular female boxing that was seen in recent months.

She was the prodigy of the family, between throwing punches with her fists and making the ball dance with her feet. Skilled, dedicated, willing and committed, Irish Katie Taylor became number one of the world. This 34-year-old woman conquered every fan on the planet after performing in one of the great battles of 2020 against the strong Delfine Persoon in August. Then, in November, she faced the former interim World Boxing Association champion Miriam Gutierrez in another great presentation. Thus, Taylor took the absolute reign in the 135 pounds with four belts.

On the other hand, we lived the great surprise when Jessica McCaskill stripped “The First Lady” Cecilia Braekhus of her long reign. McCaskill not only took away her undefeated record but also took the five belts at 147 pounds. This has been one of the most sensitive moments for boxing lovers who, in spite of the surprise, welcome the new female boxing age with the competitiveness and quality of fights that had been so expected. McCaskill convinced everyone and was recognized as the revelation of 2020.

Expanding the market and exceeding expectations is one of the goals that many female fighters have achieved. The firm Super Featherweight Champion, Hyun Mi Choi, appeared for the first time in North America with great success against Calista Silgado. And, speaking of debuts in the US, we must mention the great victory of the Swedish Elin Cederros who dethroned the local Alicia Napoleon in a very close fight. Cederros has been crowned since January 10, 2020 with the WBA Super Middleweight championship, along with the IBF championship which she already owned. This is another example of the competitive growth within female boxing.

Among the aforementioned consolidations, we have the radiant Canadian Jelena Mrdjenovich, who retained her 126-pound WBA belt in an intense fight against Mexican Iranda Paola Torres.

Two of the new WBA champions in 2020 who stood out were: Nazarena Romero in the Super Bantamweight division by winning the interim title with sporting prowess against Julieta Cardozo, also from Argentina. Also, Kali Reis from Rhode Island, won the 140-pound title, after defeating Kandy Wyatt.

In addition, it is worth mentioning the month of February when there were important events. First of all, a new edition of the historic KO DRUGS program took place in Panama. There, Venezuelan Mayerlin Rivas demolished the local Laura Ledezma to win the WBA Super Bantamweight title. Also, only days away, more than 11 delegations from different countries had the opportunity to experience the first training camp for the next Olympic Games in Tokyo. In this FUTURE WBA CHAMPIONS training camp, amateur and professional female boxing figures had the opportunity to test themselves during three days of fighting action, including Champion Yesica Bopp and her compatriot Erica Farias.
