Focus on: Former UBO title-challenger Leticia Uribe
Professional boxing records can truly be very deceiving! And that is absolutely the case with former Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) title-challenger Leticia Uribe from Huichapan, Hidalgo, Mexico.
6-18 doesn’t look like the statistics of someone who is arguably at least fringe world class, and you would not be unfair calling her a very good journeywoman, but when you look into who Uribe has lost to in recent years, it makes more sense.
She takes on all comers, anywhere, any time!
And she doesn’t fight, or look, like someone who is thirty-seven years old. In fact, one could be forgiven for thinking she is ten years younger than that.
In her most recent significant fight, Uribe lost a very competitive, all-action fight on points to Karina Fernadez (15-6-1) for the UBO International Super Bantamweight title last August. She has since returned with a routine victory in December.
Before challenging for UBO honours, Uribe had come up short in WBC regional title-challenges, losing decisions to Estrella Valverde (15-5-2) and former WBA and IBF world champion Janeth Perez (22-4-2).
Before that, in October of 2016, former WBA world champion Irma Garcia (15-1-1) became the only one so far to get a stoppage victory over Uribe, registering a technical knockout in the eighth round.
Future WBC world champion Guadalupe Martinez Guzman (12-9), former WBF world champion Isabel Millan (18-3-1), and current WBA world champion Erika Cruz Hernandez (14-1) all had to settle for distance wins.
As did world class operators Sonia Osorio (9-1) and Diana Laura Fernandez (18-2-1), just to mention a few more who had a very hard nights work against Uribe.
While she has still not managed to get her first big victory, and she still might be on the losing end against the very best, Uribe is good enough to finally crack the code sooner or later.
One of these days she could very well be a champion herself, just like all those top notch opponents she has battled since turning pro in 2014.
