On This Day: Marvin Camel Became First WBC Cruiserweight Champion
March 31, 1980
American Marvin Camel became the first WBC cruiserweight world champion in history (a division just created at that time by the World Boxing Council), defeating Croatian Mate Parlov by unanimous decision, in a fight that took place in the hotel. Caesar´s Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada. The referee was Ferd Hernandez and as judges Harold Buck, José Juan Guerra and Angelo Poletti worked.
