The second of back-to-back RJJ Boxing on UFC FIGHT PASS® shows was held last night at Auditorio Benito Juarez at Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico.

RJJ Boxing on UFC FIGHT PASS 52, presented by Roy Jones Jr. (RJJ) Boxing Promotions, in association with De La O Promotions, Kochul Pro and World Cup Boxing Series, was streamed live and exclusively on UFC FIGHT PASS^®

Undefeated Mexican welterweight Santiago “Somer” Dominguez (25-0, 19 KOs) returned to the ring after a 10-month idle stretch, but the heavy-handed prospect made up for lost time, stopping Jesus “Chino” Antonio Rubio (13-5-1, 7 KOs) midway through the fifth round of the main event, when Rubio suddenly turned his back to the action to halt their fight.

Dominguez, a former NABF Welterweight Champion, was out of the ring for personal reasons. His long-awaited return resulted in him capturing another title belt, the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Latino welterweight championship.

Rubio was coming off an unsuccessful challenge for the vacant WBA Interim World Super Lightweight Championship, in which he lost a 12-round decision to Alberto Puello (18-0) Prior to that fight, Rubio won an 8-round decision over 21-3 Sonny Fredickson.

Former WBC Youth Silver Featherweight Champion Jose “El Sugar” Eduardo Nunez (22-1, 22 KOs) won his 12^th straight fight in the co-featured event, knocking out Osvaldo “Catotas” Maldonado (10-2, 5 KOs) in the ninth round. Nunez, who is a perfect 22 knockouts in 22 pro victories, was one of the best kept secrets in boxing, but the added exposure he received from fighting on UFC FIGHT PASS platform will undoubtedly make him much better known, particularly in the United States. with 21 knockouts in 21 victories, however,

Featherweight Nazrio Castro (6-3, 3 Kos) took a 6-round decision from Enrique Mejia Morales (3-2), while super welterweight Valerie Bustamante won a 4-round decision versus Milagros Gabriela Diaz in a fight between pro-debuting Mexican women.

The heavy-handed Santiago, who is a former NABF Welterweight Champion, takes on Jesus “Chino” Antonio Rubio (13-4, 7 KOs) in the 10-round main event.

Santiago hasn’t fought since last December 10th, when he won a 10-round split decision over Ricardo Lara (22-8). “My body just needed a break,” Dominguez explained his 10-month inactive stretch. “I fought five times in 2019, four in 2020, and won the NABF welterweight title in the process. I’m ready physically, mentally, and spiritually.”

Rubio represents the toughest test of Dominguez’ 7-year pro career based on him challenging Alberto Puello (18-0) in his most recent fight, albeit in a loss by 12-round decision, for the vacant WBA Interim World Super Lightweight Championship. An 8-round win by decision against Sonny Fredrickson in his previous fight set-up Rubio’s title shot.

“I know he (Rubio) is a very good boxer,” Dominguez spoke about his opponent. “He defeated an American (Fredrickson) foe who was 21-3 at the time. He just fought for the world title. I expect him to come in shape and with a will to win. This will be a fight! I will make it a fight whether or not my opponent wants one or not.

“I know that eventually these big names will have to fight me. If all goes well (versus Rubio), I hope to get back into the WBC’s top 15 rankings, and have an opportunity to fight guys like Mikey Garcia, Danny Garcia, Amir Khan, and other great former world champions. I want to earn my world title opportunity and a victory over one of these great fighters will do just that for me.”

In the 10-round co-feature, former WBC Youth Silver Featherweight Champion Jose “El Sugar” Eduardo Nunez (21-1, 21 KOs) meets Osvaldo “Catotas” Maldonado (10-1, 5 KOs). One of the best kept secrets in boxing, Nunez has 21 knockouts in 21 victories but, Maldonado has the same style as the only fighter to defeat Nunez, Hiram Gallardo, who won a 6-round decision in 2018.

Lightweights Jose “Cheche Choryboy” Valenzuela (9-3, 3 KOs) and Jose Luis Vazquez (12-2, 5 KOs) are matched in an intra-state battle for Sinaloa bragging rights in an 8-rounder. Valenzuela is from Los Mochis, Vazquez lives in Culiacan.

“This could very well be a coming out party for Eduardo Nunez,” RJJ Boxing CEO/co-founder Keith Veltre said, “who will be tested by Jonathan Aguilar in a battle of knockout artists. Nunez is a terrific puncher who is a rising star in the featherweight division. Another fighter to watch is 19-year-old Jorge Lugo Cota. He has all the tools to be a champion someday and he’s become a popular prospect fighting on our cards.

The 23-year-old Nunez is riding an 11-fight win streak, dating back three years, since he suffered his only pro loss to Adam Valle by way of a 6-round decision. Valle remains the only fighter to go the complete distance with Nunez, a former WBC Youth Silver Featherweight Champion. Nunez is hoping to break through on a larger scale, thanks to the exposure he’ll receive fighting UFC FIGHT Pass, and crack the world ratings this year.

Nunez’ opponent is the 10-round main event, power-punching Aguilar, is a former WBC International bantamweight title challenger. Nunez and Aguilar have 38 knockouts in 41 combined victories. Odds are Nunez vs. Aguilar reach the final bell.

In the co-featured event, super featherweight Jose “Checke Choryboy” Valenzuela (10-3, 4 KOs) takes on an opponent from the same state of Sonora, Jose Luis “Cuate” Vazquez (12-2, 5 KOs), in a rivalry fight. Valenzuela is from Los Mochis, Vazquez from Culiacon.

Cota (4-0, 3 KOs) has the potential to be a bonafide star. He has the proper bloodlines as the latest member of the fighting Montiel family, whose grandfather and uncles captured world titles. “Jorgito,” who had a 140-10 amateur record, will fight in a 6-rounder versus upset-minded Rodrigo Felix (4-4, 2 KOs), who is coming off a win by 6-round decision against previously undefeated prospect Oscar Ortega.

The opening UFC FIGHT PASS match is a 6-round, super bantamweight bout between Nazario Castro (6-2, 3 Kos) and Issac “Yaqui” Buitimea (9-7, 4 KOs).

A pair of unbeaten Las Vegas-based fighters, junior flyweight Yadira Bustillo (3-0, 1 KO) and featherweight Ezquiel Borrero (3-0, 1 KO), respectively, against Dana Fraire (1-0) Miguel Angel Nides (0-1-1) in 4-round matches.
