MTK Global stars reflect on Olympic success
Kamshybek Kunkabayev and Hovhannes Bachkov have looked back on their incredible success at the Tokyo Olympics – where they both came away with bronze medals.
The talented pair both competed over the two-week period at the Olympics earlier this month, with their fantastic performances seeing them take home medals.
Kunkabayev claimed the bronze for Kazakhstan in the Super Heavyweight division, while Bachkov won the bronze for Armenia in the lightweight division.
They each now look destined to have tremendous success in the professional ranks, and they have looked back on how proud they were to win medals for their respective countries.
Kunkabayev said: “My dream when I started boxing 15 years ago was to go to the Olympics and glorify the country, but in the blink of an eye, time passed and there was a lot of hard work, blood and sweat, victories and defeats.
“I came to the Tokyo Olympics and won a bronze medal. I would like to thank all those who contributed to my success. God willing, I hope to make the Kazakh people happy with many more victories. Thank you for your support.”
Bachkov said: “I’m proud and I feel grateful. I didn’t think I fully made the Armenian people happy because I didn’t win gold, but it appears from the support and coverage I received that I could tell people were really following it.
“Everyone was waking up at 6am to watch the fights, which was amazing. When we’re in the public eye we have a responsibility to shine a light for Armenia, and I’m honoured to have done that by winning a medal.”
