Michael Pengue vs. Jorge Kapeen Result
Bankstown City Paceway, Condell Park – 11 December 2021
Outstanding Sydney boxer Michael Pengue has won the WBC Australasia Welterweight Title and is preparing for international contests and greater glory now that flights have resumed into and out of Australia.
He won the WBC Australasia title in Sydney on Saturday 11 December by unanimous points decision (97-93, 98-92, 98-92) against feisty rival Canberra boxer Jorge Kapeen, a former NSW State champion.
Pengue’s pro record 6-1 includes 4 KO including winning the NSW State Welterweight title before the Covid pandemic restricted boxing.
Pengue’s last foray was back in August 2019 when he won a stunning KO to claim an Australasian National Championship.
He won Australia and International amateur titles during a stellar amateur career and declined overtures from National Rugby League before deciding to focus on a professional boxing career.
Pengue said winning the WBC Australasia title is a major breakthrough.
“I have my focus set on making a mark on the world stage. I am so happy to have won the Australasia Title and have a way forward into the higher level of the WBC.”
Despite an extended break of two years due to the pandemic, Pengue kept himself fit sparing with WBC world rated middleweight Tim Tszyu.
