Noel “The Holy Fire” Echevarria Defeats Rafael Reyes in Georgia, USA
Noel Echevarria vs. Rafael Reyes
Noel “The Holy Fire” Echevarria added the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) International Lightweight title to his growing collection of belts on Saturday night in Jonesboro, Georgia, USA.
A former UNBC Americas and Intercontinental titlist, the 30-year-old resurrected contender, who also defended his American Boxing Federation (ABF) title, scored a third round technical knockout over Mexican Rafael Reyes.
Reyes came out with fireworks in the first round, and got stuck in the chest of Echevarria while pounding away with hard shots.
However, Echevarria kept his cool, weathered the storm and soon began to slow his opponent down with well-placed body-shots.
In round two Echevarria continued to work to the body, but got careless and was caught with a good combination from Reyes, who, despite Echevarria landing more punches, was always dangerous.
Echevarria finished round two strong, and unfortunately for Reyes he seriously injured his left hand and couldn’t come out for round three.
Born in Puerto Rico but based in Kernersville, North Carolina, Echevarria has now won seven of his last eight bouts and improved his pro record to 18-7 (12). Reyes (30), a former WBF International champion, drops to 18-12 (14).
“I want to thank God, because without him these opportunities I have been given would not exist”, said the new UBO champion after the fight.
“Second I want to thank my wife, my father and my team for the incredible preparations for this fight. I am super grateful, and I also want to thank the UBO for allowing me to become champion of such a great organization. I look forward to fighting for, and hopefully winning, the UBO World Lightweight title very soon.”
