Alexis Arguello, considered as the finest fighting icon of Nicaragua becoming a three times world Champion in three different divisions, retained his WBC super featherweight title after defeating Philippine southpaw Rolando Navarrete in five rounds. The bout took place at the Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
