Sampson Boxing proudly announces the signing of undefeated featherweight prospect and former Olympian Mirco Cuello of Santa Fe, Argentina, to a promotional contract.

The most decorated Argentinean amateur boxer of his generation, 21-year-old Cuello, won countless international elite championships during his 105-fight career in the unpaid ranks, before turning professional shortly after competing at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.

As a professional, the power-punching Cuello (8-0, 7 KOs) was last seen picking up the WBA International Featherweight Championship last June by dropping and stopping Venezuela’s Leonardo Padilla in two rounds at the WBAKODrugs event.

“It’s a pleasure for me and my team to sign with Sampson Lewkowicz, a recognized promoter who can help me better develop my boxing and be the next world champion for Argentina,” said a happy Cuello after signing.

In an emotional ceremony on Wednesday, March 30, promoter Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing was recognized by the Legislature of Buenos Aires for his great contributions to Argentine boxing and presented with a plaque by Argentine legislators Diego Weck and Rodrigo Morán.

Speakers sharing anecdotes about the colorful Lewkowicz included former national deputy Facundo Moyano; Promoter Carlos Tello, President of the Uruguayan Amateur and Professional Boxing Commission Sergio Márquez; Commissioner of the Argentine Boxing Federation Roberto Rilo and TyC Sports journalist Marcelo González.

A video was also shown, featuring boxers Sebastián Papeschi and Juan José Velasco, as well as the great Sergio “Maravilla” Martínez and journalist Osvaldo Príncipi, who also spoke of Lewkowicz’s honesty and professionalism.

Numerous active and former fighters, leaders, journalists, ring officials and relatives were also there to share the unique and touching moment with Lewkowicz and his wife Ketty, including former WBC cruiser world champion Marcelo Domínguez,; TyC Sports Programming Manager Pedro Freire and President of Argentina Boxing Promotions Mario Margossián.

Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing (along with Tello Box), proudly announces a pair of significant co-promotional signings, as super middleweight contender Sebastian Horacio “La Promesa” Papeschi (18-3, 6 KOs) and undefeated super welterweight prospect Leon Gavilan (5-0, 1 KO) have signed long-term agreements.

Papeschi, renewed his current agreement with the two promotional entities for another lengthy term.

The 30-year-old Papeschi, born in Lujan, Buenos Aires, Argentina, is a former National and South American Super Middleweight Champion. A proven contender looking to break into the division’s top 10, Papeschi was last seen winning in his first major international fight in impressive fashion on October 29 of last year in Panama, where he dominated Mexican Héctor Zepeda by unanimous decision after 10 rounds.

Papeschi is currently ranked #38 in the World Boxing Council (WBC) rankings.

Unbeaten super welterweight prospect Gavilan, from Jose C. Paz, Buenos Aires, Argentina, was a highly decorated amateur boxer, finishing with a record of 37-3 and having won several championships. A gifted fighter, 20-year-old Gavilan has already sparred and held his own with such notable stars such as former world champions Brian Castano and Diego Chaves.

“It is a great pride I announce the signing of the talented León Gavilan and a renewal with “La Promesa” Papeschi because we noticed in both of them a great hunger for glory and a desire to reach the top,” said Sampson Lewkowicz, CEO of Sampson Boxing. “We are committed to doing the best for all our fighters and I’m sure that the best is yet to come for both of them.”

Broadcast live internationally on TyC Sports and in Panama on TV Max Channel 9, in the night’s 10-round main event, Curundu, Panama’s Jaime “Jaimito” Arboleda (17-2, 14 KOs) will face Nicolas Polanco (20-1-1, 11 KOs) of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic for the WBC Latino Silver Lightweight Championship.

In the night’s co-main event, La Banda, Santiago del Estero, Argentina’s Hugo Alberto “Nato” Roldan (20-0-1, 7 KOs) will take on Barranquilla, Colombia’s German Del Castillo (10-1-2, 7 KOs) over 10 rounds for the WBC Latino Silver Super Lightweight Championship.

Also in action will be a female fighter on the fast track appearing in a televised showdown, as Coachella, California’s former amateur standout Gabriela “Sweet Poison” Fundora (4-0, 2 KOs) will take on Santiago de Veraguas, Panama’s Nataly Delgado (8-4-1, 3 KOs) in a 10-round battle for the WBC Latino Flyweight Championship.

And in the opening televised bout, Colon City, Panama’s undefeated Ernesto Marin (9-0, 5 KOs) will face Monteria, Colombia’s Carlos Suarez (8-2, 6 KOs) in a six-round lightweight showcase.

In the TV swing bout, Panama City’s Jordan Salas (0-0-1) will look for his first career victory over debuting fellow Panamanian Pedro Munoz (0-0).

On the untelevised undercard, La Palma, Panama, heavyweight Abdiel Matute (2-1, 1 KO) will fight a four-rounder against Managua, Nicaragua’s David Bejarano (1-4, 1 KO); and in a four-round welterweight bout, Los Santo, Panama’s Alcibiades Ballesteros (0-1) will take on Panama City’s Jonathan Torres (3-0).

The night will begin at 5:00 pm EST with an amateur boxing tournament. Sembrando Campeones, a running program for South American amateur boxing, features the next wave of fighting talent from Uruguay and Panama.

On fight night, the televised action will begin at 22:00 hrs. (10:00 pm GMT-3) in Argentina Time and 20:00 hrs. (8:00 pm EST) in Panama.

In the night’s main event, the Dominican Republic’s Luis Nunez (15-0, 11 KOs), battles Carlos Arrieta (14-0, 8 KOs) of Puerto Rico in a 10-round featherweight main event. The co-feature pits hard-hitting Starling Castillo (16-0, 12 KOs) against Otar Eranosyan (10-0, 6 KOs) in an eight-round lightweight bout. And in the televised opener, knockout artist Edwin De Los Santos (13-0, 12 KOs) battles William Foster III (13-0, 9 KOs) in an eight-round super featherweight fight.

The six fighters appearing in televised bouts boast a combined record of 80-0 and 57 knockouts, which marks the first time ShoBox has featured a tripleheader in which all six fighters enter fight night without a loss in the 20-plus year history of the prospect series.

Several local and international prospects highlight the undercard, including one of the hardest punchers in all of boxing, Ali Izmailov (6-0, 4 KOs) of Malgobek, Russia, taking on the always tough transplanted Panamanian Israel Duffus (20-7, 17 KOs) in an eight-round light heavyweight battle.

Also scheduled for action is New Haven, CT’s Elvis Figueroa (9-0, 6 KOs) taking on Saint Louis’ Ryan Adams (8-3-1, 6 KOs) in an eight-round super middleweight bout. In an eight-round super lightweight scrap, Queens, New York’s Shinard Bunch (17-1-1, 15 KOs) will face Kazakhstan’s Shyngyskhan Tazhibay (9-0, 2 KOs) over eight super lightweight rounds; while San Diego lightweight Robert Ramirez (24-3-1, 17 KOs) will take on Colombia’s Rodolfo Puentes (20-8-2, 16 KOs) in an eight-rounder.

And in the night’s opening six-round super welterweight bout, Orlando’s own undefeated Derrick Jackson (5-0, 2 KOs) will look to stay unbeaten against also undefeated Mike Plazola (2-0, 1 KO) from Waterloo, Iowa.

On Friday, January 7, 2022, power-punching WBC #13 and WBO #14 light heavyweight contender Ali Izmailov will return to action in a tough match-up against transplanted Panamanian veteran Israel Duffus on the untelevised undercard of the ShoBox: The New Generation 2022 kickoff episode (9 p.m. ET/PT) from the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Fla.

Izmailov (6-0, 4 KOs), from Malgobek, Russia, and Duffus (20-7, 17 KOs), now living in Los Angeles, will be fighting in support of the history-making ShoBox event in which, for the first time in the 20-plus year history of the series, all six fighters enter fight night without a loss.

“The Rumble at Caribe Royale,” presented by Sampson Boxing (Ali Izmailov appears courtesy of Salita Promotions), will see the Dominican Republic battle Puerto Rico in the 10-round featherweight main event, as Puerto Plata’s Luis “The Twist” Nunez (15-0, 11 KOs) meets Trujillo Alto’s Carlos “The Chosen One” Arrieta (14-0, 8 KOs) in the middle of the ring. The co-feature pits the Dominican Republic’s Starling Castillo (16-0, 12 KOs) against County of Georgia’s Otar Eranosyan (10-0, 6 KOs) in an eight-round lightweight bout. And in the telecast opener, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic knockout artist Edwin De Los Santos (13-0, 12 KOs) battles William “The Silent Assassin” Foster III (12-0, 8 KOs) of New Haven, Conn., in an eight-round super featherweight showdown.

A fast-rising force in the light heavyweight division, the 28-year-old Izmailov was last seen making his US ring debut at the Performance Arts Center in Dearborn, Mich., in October of this year, with an impressive two-round demolition of James Ballard (pictured above courtesy of My Art My Rules). Now residing in the United States, the fight with Duffus will be Izmailov’s second with new trainer John David Jackson.

“I am twice the fighter I was last time you saw me,” said Izmailov through an interpreter. “I have had more time to work with John David Jackson and with all that he is teaching me, I have become a new kind of animal. You will see me destroy to the head and body with non-stop intelligent pressure.”

“Ali is quickly becoming a very versatile boxer,” added Jackson. “As you know he can punch, but his boxing skills are so underrated because he hasn’t use them yet. His opponent will be somewhat crafty in the beginning, but after Ali begins to land his body punches, the fight should quickly change into his favor. He listens and learns quickly.”

A former WBC FECARBOX Light Heavyweight Champion, 29-year-old opponent Duffus went on a recent eight-fight winning streak, culminating with his title-winning victory in June 2018; a second-round stoppage of Mexico’s Victor Alfonso Leon. Never one to turn down a challenge, even internationally, three of Duffus’ last four opponents have been undefeated contenders.

“How he did against them will show you how good I am,” said Izmailov. “I’m going to tear him apart. Should I demolish him if I can or just bash on him until he quits? I will be throwing with power from new angles and in beautiful combinations. My left hook to the liver is going to really hurt.”

“Ali is a blue-chip contender, he is a skilled boxer and a big puncher,” said his promoter, Dmitriy Salita. “He is fighting the durable and very experienced Israel Duffus in only his seventh professional fight. An impressive win will show the boxing fans that Ali is on the fast track to a world title.”

A pair of Sampson Boxing’s exciting contenders, super welterweight Sebastian “The Towering Inferno” Fundora and super featherweight Eduardo Ramirez, moved themselves into separate world-title challenges with career-boosting victories on Showtime Pay-Per-View Sunday night.

Fighting on the undercard of Tank Davis’s also-thrilling war with Isaac Cruz at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Fundora (18-0-1, 12 KOs) was able to use his amazing physical gifts to outwork Spain’s formerly undefeated Sergio “El Nino” Garcia (33-1, 14 KOs) over 12 rugged rounds; while Mexico’s Eduardo “Zurdito” Ramirez (26-2-3, 12 KOs) continued his surge with a thrilling toe-to-toe 10-round unanimous decision over the always-game Colombian Miguel “The Scorpion” Marriaga (30-5, 26 KOs).

Fighting in the night’s co-main event, a twelve round WBC super welterweight eliminator, the 6’ 5” Fundora’s reach and activity rate were enough to overcome the dangerous Garcia’s attempts to land fight-ending haymakers. Fundora, the WBC #4 contender before the fight, whipped hard lefts and rights to the head and body from a seemingly impossible distance for a 154-lb fighter, as well as wicked uppercuts on the inside. Always in great shape, the entertaining Fundora kept a steady tattoo going on the sometimes befuddled Spaniard.

Rated WBC #2 before the fight, Garcia also had his moments. Especially in the middle portion of the fight, where he landed more-than-occasional bombs on the iron chin of Fundora, but not enough to sway the judges.

The scores were 115-113, 118-110 and 117-111. Fundora becomes the next mandatory challenger to WBC Champion Jermell Charlo.

And in a WBC 130-lb elimination fight, Ramirez, of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, brought his latest winning streak to four with an impressive unanimous decision over a determined Marriaga. The difference in punching power gave the Mexican slugger the advantage, but Marriaga never tacitly agreed to make it easy. Despite being down in round three from a Ramirez left hook, Marriaga got up, stayed in the fight and kept it interesting throughout. All three judges, however, scored the bout 99-90.

“Both of my fighters looked very good,” said their promoter, Sampson Lewkowicz. “Fundora is unstoppable at this weight. Even the best of the best can’t deal with his size. And Eduardo Ramirez is ready to become a world champion with his win over Marriaga. It was a very good night for Sampson Boxing and for two of my future champions.”

Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing proudly announces the signing of talented super lightweight prospect Shinard Bunch to a long-term co-promotional contract.

Before turning professional in 2019, Bunch had over 400 amateur fights and was once ranked as high as #3 nationally as a decorated member of the USA National Team, alongside current world champions Errol Spence and Shakur Stevenson. The talented former Brooklynite relocated to Trenton, New Jersey at age 13, and is now trained by Chino Rivas, perhaps best known for his work with former world champions Tevin Farmer and Jason Sosa, at TKO Fitness in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

Managed by Philadelphia-based boxing legend J. Russell Peltz and, along with Lewkowicz, co-promoted by Nedal Abuhamoud of Nedal Promotions, the 22-year-old Bunch (17-1-1, 15 KOs) announced himself as a serious threat to anyone in the world on July 23 of this year at the Heartland Events Center in Grand Island, Nebraska, where the supposed underdog Bunch fought to an impressive split draw with fellow prospect Janelson Figueroa Bocachica in a fight which many had Bunch winning handily. The scores were 97-93, 95-95 and 94-96 and the fight was televised nationally on ShoBox: The New Generation.

Bunch says he has total trust in his team and is looking forward to more chances to shine in the national spotlight.

“I just want to be great, honestly, and to be the best you have to have the right team in place,” said a happy Bunch of adding Lewkowicz to his squad. “I plan on being the best fighter in whatever weight class I’m in and this deal will definitely help me test my full potential.”

“I’ve done business with Sampson for close to 20 years and he’s a man of his word and that’s rare in this business,” said Peltz of the deal for his fighter with Lewkowicz. “I think we’re going to have fun together.”

Abuhamoud, maybe best known for his impressive work with rugged former contenders Kabary “The Egyptian Magician” Salem and Omar Sheika, echoes Bunch and Peltz’s excitement for the co-promotional deal. “I’ve done business with Sampson before and never had a problem,” said Abuhamoud. “He’s a great guy and we have good relationship. Even outside boxing we speak. You sign with another promoter; you have to talk to ten people to talk to him. Sampson doesn’t give you that kind of run around.”

Lewkowicz, who says he has a potential fight date in January for Bunch’s first under his co-promotional banner, likes what he sees in Bunch. Known for his ability to spot true fighting talent, Lewkowicz has no compunctions about matching Bunch with any other super lightweight in the world.

“Shinard Bunch is already one of the best in the world,” said Lewkowicz. “His team of Nedal and Russell Peltz and Chino Rivas have done an incredible job with him. I will help them find the fights they need to become world champion. Shinard Bunch has the talent to beat anyone in one of boxing’s best divisions. I am happy to be working with the next world champion at 140 lbs.”

Broadcast live internationally on TyC Sports and in Panama on TV Max, in the night’s 10-round main event, power-punching super featherweight Pablo “The Cuban Menace” Vicente will face dangerous veteran Javier “Johnny” Herrera for the WBC Continental Americas Super Featherweight Championship.

The 28-year-old Vicente, a former decorated amateur on the Cuban National Team, hails from Panama City via Havana, and is currently ranked #10 in the world by the WBC. A fearsome puncher, Vicente (17-1, 15 KOs) turned professional in 2016 and has gone on to stop all but three of his professional opponents.

A bonafide spoiler, 28-year-old Herrera (17-4-1, 8 KOs) of Catamarca, Argentina, has never been stopped in his professional career and is coming off an impressive unanimous decision victory over his then 13-1 countryman Sergio Damian Rosalez last May.

In the 10-round middleweight co-main event, Argentina’s Sebastian Horacio “La Promesa” Papeschi will take on Mexico’s Hector Manuel “Baby” Zepeda. Papeschi (17-3, 6 KOs) is a 30-year-old southpaw from Lujan, Buenos Aires. Zepeda (20-2, 6 KOs) is a 24-year-old from Tijuana, Baja California.

Also scheduled is an eight-round super flyweight battle between Panama City-based former world title challenger, Ronal Batista (12-2, 8 KOs) and Mexico City’s Hytan Ramos (10-4-2, 2 KOs); as well as a four-round lightweight rematch between Panama City crosstown rivals Charlie Wilson (2-1-1, 2 KOs) and Jonathan “El Bloque” Torres (2-0).

Coachella, California via Panama City’s undefeated southpaw featherweight Jose “Magnifico” Nunez (12-0-2, 5 KOs) will take on Mexican warrior Jesus Arturo “Chucho” Guzman (8-4, 5 KOs) in an eight-rounder, and rounding out the action will be Panama City’s own Alexis Moreno (2-1, 2 KOs) in a four-round lightweight bout vs. TBA.

Sembrando Campeones, an amateur boxing tournament featuring the next wave of Panamanian champions is scheduled to begin the show. The primary sponsor for these events is Mexican gambling-industry giant Caliente.

Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing proudly announces the signing of power-punching Cuban super featherweight Pablo “The Cuban Menace” Vicente to an exclusive promotional contract.

Vicente, currently residing in Panama City, Panama, but originally hailing from Havana, Cuba, is currently ranked #10 in the world by the WBC. A former decorated amateur on the vaunted Cuban National Team, Vicente (17-1, 15 KOs) turned professional in 2016 and has gone on to stop all but three of his professional opponents.

The 28-year-old will make his Sampson Boxing debut on Friday, October 29, at the Centro de Convenciones Vasco Nunez de Balboa, Bella Vista, in his adopted home of Panama City in a 10-round showdown against Argentina’s Javier Herrera (17-4-1, 8 KOs) for the WBC Continental Americas Super Featherweight Championship.

“I am very happy to have gained a promoter who can properly move my career in Sampson,” said Vicente. “Our plan is to begin fighting in the US and start climbing up the ladder to a world championship. I am going to train like never before because I know I have been given the opportunity of a lifetime to reach all my dreams as a fighter.”

Lewkowicz, boxing’s premier talent scout, says Vicente will make a great addition to his ever-growing stable of contenders, prospects and champions.

“The Cuban Menace will be a world champion,” said Lewkowicz. “He is a very strong fighter with excellent power in his combinations and the skill level you would expect from an elite fighter. We will continue his development and move him into the fights he needs to become another great champion from the Island of Cuba.”

The rescue of Panamanian boxing begins with two WBA world fights | Boxen247.com

Panamanian boxing woke up this Monday with a very promising announcement. Promoter Sampson Lewkowicz, together with the World Boxing Association (WBA) and multiple collaborators held a press conference to announce all the details of the “Boxeo Caliente” program, which aims to rescue the activity in the country.

There will be a series of events (six in ten months to begin with) that will be held in Panama and that seek to activate the sport that has given so many glories to local and Latin American boxing.

Representatives of the Panamanian Sports Institute and the national government were also present, in addition to the leaders of the company “Caliente”, who will have a leading role in this plan.

The spokesmen announced that the first event will take place on August 13th and that it will have the bout between Panamanian Jaime Arboleda and Argentinean Jonathan Barros for the WBA-Fedebol Super Featherweight title as the main fight. On the same event, Panamanian Nathaly Delgado and Gabriela Fundora will fight for the WBA Female Interim Super Flyweight belt.

On September 10th, the second confirmed event will take place, in which local Ronal Batista will fight Mexican Alejandro Santiago for the WBA Interim 115 lbs. title.

It was also confirmed that TyC Sports will have the broadcasting rights for this series of bouts.

The WBA is proud that Panama is coming back with this initiative. The pioneer body’s home has a lot of talent and being able to showcase this type of events to the world will contribute to the growth of the discipline and the sport in general.

This morning from the beautiful country of Panama, the presentation of a new era for Panamanian boxing called “Hot Boxing.”

Promoter Sampson Lewkowicz, who is thrilled about this resurgence of boxing in Panama, says this country is a great place for producing champions and that as of today the world will know the talent of its boxers.

He added that these cards are sponsored by Caliente who without thinking twice endeavored in favor of boxing. He also explained that the first show will take place on August 13, starring Jaimito Arboleada against Jonathan Barros and representing women’s boxing Nataly Delgado against Gabriela Fundora, who has just made her professional debut.

This is the first of six events that will take place in the next 10 months and which will be broadcast through TyC Sports network.

For WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman, this announcement is very important not only for Panamanian boxing but for that of the whole world, because this type of effort and initiatives are so needed, especially after such a complicated year for everyone where the Covid-19 pandemic has hit our beloved sport hard.

“I am very happy to be part of this important event, because this announcement is a manifestation of goodwill and the need to activate boxing worldwide, Panama is a land of champions and I am sure that the new idols will emerge”-he commented-

He recalled that unforgettable visit to the President of Panama, Doctor Laurentino Cortizo, to whom he presented a world champion belt, the famous “Green and Gold.”

A visit that the WBC leader recalled as a watershed heralding this moment that we live today, because Panama was one of the founding countries of the WBC almost six decades ago, recalling also the great Panamanian champions, among them: Roberto Durán, Ismael Laguna, Hilario Zapata and many others who are remembered with great pride.

This is how Panama returns to the forefront elite of the boxing stages with highly competitive cards that we are sure will be seen by millions of boxing fans.
