Incredible welterweight championship contest added to AO Arena fight night
Unbeaten 4-0 former Team GB Olympic hero Frazer Clarke bids to kickstart his year in style
Explosive heavyweight prospect Matty Harris also added to the bill
PLUS: Undefeated cruiserweight starlet Scott Forrest takes on a Belgian ‘Beast’
Eubank Jr vs Smith, in association with Wasserman Boxing, is live on Sky Sports Box Office
The British & Commonwealth, IBF European and WBC International Silver Welterweight titles will be on the lines as Ekow Essuman and Chris Kongo go head-to-head in a scintillating addition to the undercard of Chris Eubank Jr vs Liam Smith on Saturday, January 21 at Manchester’s AO Arena.
‘The Engine’ produced a comprehensive, unanimous points victory over BOXXER’s Samuel Antwi at the same venue last September to retain his British & Commonwealth titles and protect his flawless record (18-0, 7 KOs).
But Essuman will undoubtedly face a tough test in the form of ‘2 Slick’ Kongo in what promises to be a barnstorming title clash.
Kongo captured the vacant WBC International Silver Welterweight crown when he defeated Sebastian Formella last June in London. And he’ll be hungry to start the new year in style by putting the first dent on Essuman’s burgeoning CV and claiming two prestigious titles.
Rising heavyweight sensation Frazer Clarke is another sterling addition to the event which is broadcast live, in the UK and Republic of Ireland, on Sky Sports Box Office.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic bronze medal hero is eager to ascend up the heavyweight rankings this year and will return to the scene of his last victory.
An opponent will be named in due course but Clarke (4-0, 3 KOs) will be keen to remind the division of his incredible power as he did last November when he outclassed Kamil Sokowlski over six rounds.
Another explosive heavyweight prospect is confirmed for January 21 too in Matty Harris.
The hard-hitting Coventry fighter (3-0, 2 KOs) burst on the scene in 2021 and last year added two impressive stoppages to his résumé, defeating Mait Metsis and Pawel Strykowski. An opponent for Harris will be named soon.
And unbeaten Scottish cruiserweight starlet Scott Forrest (3-0, 3 KOs) will be keen to showcase his talent on the night when he collides with Amine ‘The Beast’ Boucetta (7-5-0).
BOXXER Founder and CEO, Ben Shalom said: “These are four terrific additions to what is already a blockbuster card. Tickets are selling out fast with a bumper crowd all set for an incredible night of boxing in Manchester.”
The main event – in association with Wasserman Boxing – sees bitter middleweight enemies Chris Eubank Jr and Liam Smith face-off in what promises to be an epic domestic clash for the ages as both rivals bid to take a giant leap towards their desired world title pursuits.
Elsewhere on the stacked pay-per-view card, Richard Riakporhe battles former two-time WBO cruiserweight world champion Krzysztof Głowacki, as local lad Jack Massey steps up to the heavyweight division to fight former world champion Joseph Parker.
Final remaining tickets are on sale now at Boxxer.com.

Liam ‘Beefy’ Smith got a 4th round knockout of Hassan Mwakinyou in his return to home city of Liverpool, but it was not the perfect homecoming with the fight ending in confusion and controversy.
Smith was up against the heavy-handed Mwakinyo who had come to the UK and caused upsets against the home fighter in the past. Mwakinyo piled on the pressure in the early rounds of the fight, using fast jabs and powerful right hands, but Smith was feeling out his opponent’s rhythm and finding the openings .
Mwakinyo complained of ankle problems after a slip in the 2nd round, which seemed to impair his movement for the rest of the fight, and lead to the relatively unprovoked first knockdown in the fourth round, and the eventual second knockdown and stoppage at 1:46 into that round.
The Liverpudlian legend is ranked in the top five across multiple sanctioning bodies, and now looks more determined than ever before to claim another world championship. It looks certain that more huge fights are to come in Liam Smith’s career.
Full Undercard Results:
Natasha Jonas def. Patricia Berghult – UD (99-91, 100-90, 100-90)
It was a successful unification of the WBO and WBC Super Welterweight World Championships by ‘Miss GB’ Natasha Jonas in a 10 round barnstormer of a fight against an undefeated World Champion in Patricia Berghult. Patricia Berghult had genuine success boxing at long range in the first few rounds, but Jonas showed the heart of a champion to close the distance and land concussive shots for the rest of the fight.
Jonas turned the fight into a gritty brawl at close range, which she consistently dominated. Throughout the later rounds in the fight, Jonas made Berghult miss and landed brutal hooks to the head and the body. Jonas looked close to finding the stoppage throughout the closing rounds, but Berghult wouldn’t be put down, and kept scrapping until the final bell, meaning Miss GB had to take a wide decision on the judge’s scorecards.
Natasha Jonas was a proud representative of Liverpool in this fight, and the Liverpool crowd got behind their champion. Now she goes on to represent the sport in the biggest night in the history of women’s boxing next Saturday.
Frazer Clarke def. Pencho Tsvetkov – KO Rd 1/6 1:05
Olympic Bronze Medalist and fast-rising heavyweight sensation Frazer Clarke destroyed an opponent in Pencho Tsvetkov who had a single taste of Clarke’s power and instantly realised he didn’t want to be in the ring with him.
Clarke blasted him out in under 70 seconds and swiftly moved his thoughts on to the 4th opponent of his career, who will hopefully provide more of a contest.
Adam Azim def. Michel Cabral – KO Rd 1 (1:54)
The most electrifying young talent in world boxing Adam Azim scored his third consecutive 1st round stoppage and the 5th victory of his career in just over two minutes. Azim charged out from the first bell and claimed the centre of the ring, firing off lightning fast jabs and right hands, scoring a knockdown with a crippling hook to the body and then ending the fight with a clutch of straight right hands to Michel Cabral’s head that knocked him off his feet and rendered him unable to respond to the referee’s count to 10.
Cabral had never been stopped before in his professional career, having competed 45 rounds and taken five victories up to this point in his career. The future superstar from Slough made a massive statement with another explosive victory, showing the world that he is deadly serious when he says he plans to become the youngest World Champion in history.
Dan Azeez def. Shakan Pitters – UD (117-111, 117-112, 115,113)
British Light Heavyweight Champion Dan Azeez took a monumental unanimous decision victory over one of the best 175lb fighters in the UK in Shakan Pitters. Azeez overcame the 8-inch height difference between the pair with slick forward movement and destructive shots in a 12 round war. The fight kept a strong pace with constant action from the first bell to the final bell
The first half of the fight was highly competitive, with Pitters boxing well at range and landing with the right uppercut, while Azeez put the pressure on and landed shots from close range, as well as a set of powerful overhand rights in the 2nd round that did serious damage to Pitters. Azeez was finding more success in these rounds however, using excellent head movement while coming forward to avoid Pitters’s output and starting to build damage on Pitters with clubbing shots.
Pitters had periods of legitimate success in the later rounds, but Azeez continued to find ways to land shots and do damage. ‘Super’ Dan dictated the pace throughout the fight, putting the pressure on when he decided, and coaxing Pitters into a fight at longer range when he felt it necessary, showing outstanding ring generalship on his way to a career-defining victory.
Azeez now can rightfully claim to sit at the very top table of British Light Heavyweight boxing, and will now look towards even bigger and better things in his currently unblemished career.
Paddy Lacey def. Seamus Devlin – PTS 60-54
Former professional footballer and now 7-0 professional boxer Paddy Lacey took a comprehensive points victory over six rounds against a fiery opponent who had clashed with Lacey at the weigh-in. Lacey controlled distance well and made sure to come out better from every exchange, not leaving any question as to who won each round for the referee scoring the bout.
Nathan Quarless def. Toni Visic – PTS 60-53
Nathan Quarless sent his opponent tumbling to the canvas on the way to a totally dominant points victory. Visic is a highly experienced ring-veteran with over 50 professional fights and 20 victories, but Quarless made it look easy. The skillful scouse Cruiserweight landed shots throughout the fight and came close to putting Visic out for good at multiple points throughout the fight, but Visic showed grit and determination to reach the final bell. The referee’s scorecard reflects how Quarless won every second of every round.
Frankie Stringer def. Karl Sampson PTS 40-36
The first Liverpool native on the card took a composed victory against a fast-moving, elusive southpaw in Karl Sampson to take the second victory of his professional career. Stringer consistently held the centre of the ring and walked Sampson down with cannon-like jabs, but Sampson remained notably hard to pin down.
Stringer grew into the fight as it went on, finding more success in the 3rd and 4th round when Sampson started to slow, finishing strong and claiming victory in every single round on the referee’s scorecard.
Clark Smith def. Petar Aleksandrov – PTS 40-36
A measured, intelligent debut from the ‘Manchester Mexican’ Clark Smith against an experienced opponent in Aleksandrov, throwing neat, straight shots from the southpaw stance throughout the fight. Smith used long jabs and straight left hands throughout the fight in order to hit Aleksandrov without allowing the tough Bulgarian to land anything in return.
Smith showed some impressive punch variety in the final two rounds, working uppercuts and combinations into his output to finish the fight in serious style. This debut has put boxing on notice as to how good Clark Smith has the potential to be.
Musa Moyo def. Diego Costa – PTS 58-56
Musa Moyo managed to overcome a seriously tough, undefeated opponent in Diego Costa in a brutal, back-and-forth 6 round fight. Both men consistently landed shots throughout the fight, with Muyo being the more evasive of the pair, while Diego Costa brought formidable punch-power. Both men had success in this even fight, being reflected in the referee’s close scorecard to decide the winner. Both men will have won a lot of fans with their performances tonight.
Scott Forrest def. Dmitrij Kalinovskij – TKO Rd 3/4 (1:34)
Scott Forrest scored another devastating knockout in the first bout of the night to move his record to three wins and no defeats, with all victories coming before the final bell. He was consistently landing fast punch combinations throughout the first two rounds of the fight, with one in the third finally sending Kalinovskij to the canvas. He rose back to his feet, but an inch-perfect left hook, right uppercut combination knocked him down again and forced the referee to stop the fight.

Coventry SkyDome Arena, England – 25 June 2022
20-year-old lightweight sensation Adam ‘The Assassin’ Azim took another victory in the very first round with his TKO victory over skillful opposition in Anthony Loffet.
Azim floored Loffet within 35 seconds of the very first bell, after a series of inch-perfect 1-2 combinations, before piling on the pressure with powerful shots and forcing Loffet’s corner to throw in the towel, just 1 minute and 6 seconds into the first round, claiming the WBC Youth Intercontinental Super-Lightweight Championship.
The Assassin has put the public on notice with this stunning stoppage, while also headlining the first card of his career in only his 5th professional fight.
Shane Mcguigan’s claim that Azim is ”the greatest talent he’s ever trained,” is being proved correct and the young showstopper will be hungry to get in the ring again after two stunningly fast victories in his most recent fights.
Adam Azim has now cemented himself as one of the most exciting, talked-about prospects in boxing, and looks to have the potential to reach World Championship glory in his professional-boxing career. There will be a huge number of people watching his career with interest after tonight’s perfect performance.
Sam Eggington def. Przemysław Zysk UD 12/12 (119-109, 119-109, 117-111)
Multi-time Fight Of The Year winner Sam Eggington took a clear decision victory over the undefeated Przemysław Zysk to win the IBO Super Welterweight Championship.
Eggington pushed hard in the early rounds of the fight to find a way to stop Zysk, landing devastating combinations across the first four rounds of the fight. Eggington looked set for an early night and a stoppage victory but Zysk showed tremendous grit and determination to survive Eggington’s destructive onslaught.
Eggington used his boxing skill in the second half of the fight to win every single round of the final six. Allowing the new IBO World Champion to dominate the all three judges’ scorecards and claim victory. Zysk fought valiantly across all 12 rounds, despite the huge punishment taken early on in the fight, and made all of the last six rounds competitive.
Sam Eggington always leaves the crowd going home happy with his aggressive, hell-for-leather fight style, and did so again tonight with this fluid, intelligent performance. Eggington’s status as IBO Champion may be the key to earning even bigger fights soon.
Dylan Cheema def. Stu Greener PTS 4/4 (39-37)
Coventry’s own Dylan Cheema took a successful first victory among his passionate supporters since his victory at the BOXXER Series in April, moving his professional record to 6-0. Cheema outworked and outbattled a tough, game opponent in Stu Greener, who made the Sikh star fight hard for his victory.
Cheema once again had huge support in the Coventry Skydome from his zealous supporters, with his proud membership of the Punjabi Sikh community attracting followers from across Coventry and across the country.
The Natural’ signed with BOXXER after his BOXXER Series victory and will continue to build his young career to the very top of the Lightweight division across BOXXER shows in future.
Karriss Artingstall def. Vaida Masiokaite PTS 6/6 (60-54)
Olympic Bronze medalist and special female Featherweight talent Karriss Artingstall made a successful professional debut that saw her take a shutout victory on the referee’s scorecard over an experienced opponent who’d been in the ring with top talent like Natasha Jonas and Caroline Dubois.
Artingstall didn’t put a foot or a punch wrong across the six rounds of the fight, landing stiff shots and fast combinations from the first to the last bell, dominating her opponent.
The Tokyo 2020 medalist has now experienced a professional fight, without the head guards of amateur boxing, and experienced the process of a professional fight week. She now looks set to soar through the ranks of women’s boxing at 126lbs and find World Championship glory very soon.
Tyler Denny def. River Wilson Bent SD 10/10 (97-93, 96-93, 94-96)
The Coventry Skydome came alive for this 10 round war between passionate rivals Tyler Denny and River Wilson-Bent, whose bad blood only built between this fight and their first that ended in a controversial draw.
Tyler Denny left no question in the minds of the public after this fight however, taking the victory in this close, explosive fight via a split decision on the judge’s scorecards. Tyler Denny can now proudly call himself the English Middleweight Champion.
Denny consistently landed the more damaging shots across the fight, but was especially able to pin Wilson-Bent down in the first half of the fight. River Wilson-Bent had success across the fight, and every single round was competitive, but Tyler Denny took victory, handing Wilson-Bent the first loss of his professional career.
The fight lived up to the expectations that built around it during the fiery exchanges between both men in the lead-up to the competition, and the 10th and final round especially electrifying the crowd and the viewing public, as both men gave absolutely everything until the final bell.
Cori Gibbs def. Carlos Perez PTS 8/8 (79-73)
Former BOXXER Series winner Cori Gibbs returned to the ring for the first time since that tournament victory last November to extend his perfect record to 17-0. Gibbs produced a strong performance against high-quality opposition in Carlos Perez, who came into this fight with a strong winning record and was undefeated in his last four fights. Gibbs won all but one round on the referee’s scorecard and shook off any signs of ringrust after his recent layoff within seconds of the first bell ringing, landing fast combinations while making sure to receive little in return throughout the fight.
Gibbs will now look forward to more impressive fights under the BOXXER banner, first looking to step up to even stronger opposition and challenge for domestic titles against the best Super Lightweights in the UK.
Kaisee Benjamin def. Serge Ambomo PTS 6/6 (60-55)
Former Midlands Area Welterweight Champion Kaisee Benjamin gave a measured, intelligent performance in his six-round victory over a highly experienced opponent in Serge Ambomo. This performance sets Benjamin up well for big fights in future and ended a period of over half a year out of the ring.
Shakiel Thompson def. Bartosz Glowacki PTS 6/6 (60-54)
Tall, powerful Middleweight, and new BOXXER signee, Shakiel Thompson convincingly won every single round in his fight with dangerous opposition in Bartosz Glowacki, who had won four of his career victories by stoppage.
Thompson used his natural size and range to dominate the fight on the outside, but also showed the grit and skill to land shots from closer ranges, doing serious damage to Glowacki when he did.
Thompson now looks on to better opposition and exciting opportunities in his new partnership with BOXXER.
Aaron McKenna def. David Benitez TKO 7/8 1:40
Ireland’s Aaron McKenna proved once again why he is one of the hottest prospects in world boxing by moving to 15-0 as a professional at only 22 years of age. Mckenna consistently outclassed his opponent across the first six rounds, and produced a whirlwind of powerful shots to force the stoppage victory, becoming the only man to stop Benitez across his 15 professional bouts.
Scott Forrest def. Toni Visic TKO 4/6 1:35
Powerful Cruiserweight and former Team GB amateur star Scott Forrest took another devastating stoppage victory in only the second fight of his career, moving to 2-0.
Visic’s corner was forced to throw in the towel in the 4th round after a brutal right hand from Forrest sent him tumbling to the canvas. Forrest has already shown serious boxing skill and fierce punch-power in these first two fights, and looks set to continue to do so in future.

Coventry SkyDome Arena, England – 25 June 2022
“Explosive” was the word Adam Azim used at today’s BOXXER: BREAKTHROUGH media day when asked to describe what fans could expect from him at the Coventry SkyDome Arena this Saturday night, live on Sky Sports.
“People like entertainment and I bring entertainment. You’re going to see more explosive knockouts, you’re going to see more tricks that you haven’t seen before on Saturday night,” he said.
“This is definitely a great step up for me and I’ve been training really hard for this fight. I’m ready to go on Saturday and hopefully it will be the same outcome as my last four fights.”
Azim’s co-headliner Sam Eggington is also looking for a showcase performance.
“Whether my opponent’s come to box like Mayweather or fight like Tyson, I’ve done everything I can in the gym to make sure I get the win. Fingers crossed this can be the fight to push me onto very big things,” he said.
Further quotes from today’s media day:
Karriss Artingstall on making professional debut: “I can’t wait to get going now. Day in, day out I get in the ring, I get punched and I punch people so I’m used to that kind of stuff. It’s all the little things outside of that that I need to get used to now. Like fighting in front of a big home audience, I’ve never really done that before.”
Lauren Price on Karriss: “Relax and enjoy it. I know she’s trained 100%, she’s absolutely flying. Watched her on the pads this week and it’s the best I’ve ever seen her.”
Dylan Cheema: “I’ve got to be on my game. I’ve got to be sharp. I’m fit and I’m strong so that’s all going to show in the ring on Saturday night. But I can’t afford to drop a round, I’ve got to be on my game for the duration of the fight.”
Cori Gibbs: “You’re going to see a lot more of me in this fight. I’m a lot better when I’m relaxed, and I was under pressure to win right away in the BOXXER Series. Now you’re going to see a more relaxed Cori Gibbs, and a better Cori Gibbs. All my skills, all my power, you’ll be able to see a lot more and I can’t wait.”
Scott Forrest: “Cruiserweight is a big division right now, especially domestically. My debut was just to feel the difference between fighting amateur and professional. My debut opponent had only been stopped four times and had fought a lot of big heavyweights, but I got into my groove and made it my fight, and that’s what I’m here to do on Saturday.”
Ben Shalom on Azim: “He just wants to get in there and fight. He feels no pressure and is obsessed with fighting. That gives me the confidence that he’s going to go all the way.”
Ben Shalom on Karriss: “She has got something about her. She’s special and I think she’s going to light up the professional ranks. I think she’s going to be knocking people out. Savannah Marshall does it, but very few women get stoppages in professional fights and I think Karriss Artingstall can be one of them.”

Undefeated Birmingham battler Gibbs, who won the eight-man BOXXER Series Liverpool: Super-Lightweights tournament in November, will face the tough and wily Carlos ‘Raton’ Perez (17-6-2, 2 KO’s), the current Spanish lightweight champion
Cheema, who won last month’s BOXXER Series: Coventry tournament in spectacular fashion despite entering as an unknown underdog, is making a quick return to the ring for the first fight of his newly-signed multi-fight promotional deal with BOXXER.
Birmingham’s Sam Eggington (31-7, 18 KO’s), a two-time ‘Fight of the Year’ winner and firm crowd favourite thanks to his all-action fighting style, looks set to deliver another crowd-pleasing performance as he challenges for the IBO Super Welterweight Championship against undefeated Pole Przemyslaw Zysk (18-0, 6 KO’s)
Both fighters have a reputation for never taking a backwards step, making this another potential ‘Fight of the Year’ nominee for Eggington and an encounter likely to produce many a highlight-reel moment.
The rematch for the English Middleweight Championship between River Wilson Bent (12-0-1, 5 KO’s) and Tyler Denny (13-2-3) will be taking place on this card after their controversial and explosive first fight that ended prematurely after a clash of heads, resulting in a technical draw.
With a torrent of bad blood running through this fight and a score to settle after their first encounter, this is another of the evening’s bouts which guarantees sensational action from start to finish.
Undefeated 6’3” middleweight Shakiel Thompson (7-0, 5 KO’s) will be returning to action on this card, along with Scottish cruiserweight Scott Forrest (22-24, 4 KO’s) and Welsh super-bantamweight prospect Rhys Edwards (12-0, 4 KO’s).
Tickets for this event go on sale Friday 20 May at 12pm midday via boxxer.com/tickets

Adam ‘The Assassin’ Azim (4-0, 3 KO’s), described by trainer Shane McGuigan as “the best natural talent I’ve ever worked with”, brings his spectacular skills to the ring in a World Youth Championship bout as he continues his journey from teenage prodigy to future world champion.
Azim won ten national titles as an amateur and was ranked #1 in the world at welterweight before turning professional in 2020, where he has continued to win plaudits and show every sign of living up to the potential which has industry insiders so excited by him.
Also heading to Coventry on the path to future greatness is Tokyo 2020 Olympic Medalist Karriss Artingstall. She will make her highly-anticipated professional boxing debut following a glittering amateur career which culminated in a bronze medal in the latest Olympics.

OVO Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland – 26 February 2022
Josh Taylor controversially held onto his Undisputed World Super-Lightweight titles against Jack Catterall by split decision last night at the OVO Hydro, Glasgow, in a fight that all of the boxing World felt that the Englishman had clearly won.
Edinburgh’s Taylor was making the historic first defence of his WBO, WBA, IBF and WBC World titles on home soil at sold out OVO Hydro in front of a crowd of over 12,000, while unbeaten Catterall – who had not faced anyone in Taylor’s class – was the underdog going in.
The atmosphere was electric as the home fans turned out for Taylor, but Catterall surprised everyone by outboxing, flooring and then cutting Taylor in the twelve round championship contest and it looked that there was going to be a massive upset on the cards.
The action was messy throughout the fight with a lot of holding and referee Marcus McDonnell had to work hard all night separating and warning the pair, even deducting points from both fighters.
In the opening round, southpaw Catterall got to work quicker landing his stiff jabs and Taylor and was rocked with a big left hand and the Scotsman was already getting frustrated.
In the 3rd, Taylor, also a southpaw, landed a sold hook while Catterall worked away with some sharp combinations.
Taylor looked to force himself on Catterall in the 4th but Catterall landed his own better punches at the end of the round.
Catterall landed a cracking three punch combination in the 5th and Taylor was showing his frustrations as a nasty cut under his right eye opened up.
In the 6th and 7th rounds Catterall was boxing well with his shots getting through and at this stage it was felt that Catterall was ahead on points.
Then in the 8th round the biggest crisis of Taylor’s career saw him floored for the first time from a big left from Catterall and the champion looked in trouble but rose from the count and continued.
The fight got messier from the 9th as they clashed heads and Catterall was holding, the referee then deducted a point from Catterall in the 10th.
Taylor then looked to press the fight in the 11th and end the last two rounds strongly, but Catterall was moving well and jabbing and Taylor was deducted a point for punching after the bell.
The last round saw Taylor landing a good left hand as looked for a final push but it seemed to be too late.
Both fighters raised their hands at the end and now it was down to the judges scorecards. Howard Foster gave it to Catterall 113-112, while Ian John Lewis and Victor Loughlin both gave it to Taylor 114-111 and 113-112 respectively.
Whilst the decision was met with delight from Taylor’s fans in the arena, it led to widespread disbelief by media at rings.
Shocked by the result, Catterall immediately left the ring.
Catterall has now given his reaction for the first time after the fight, revealing that he feels like his dreams have been stolen.
Catterall said: “You know what hurts the most. It wasn’t for me I did all of this for. It was for my family, my team, my town and my country. My baby girl and my missus, our future.
“Today I should have been waking up with all of the belts. I had 15 months out the ring, and they all wrote me off. I was messed about in every way possible for over two years, and then finally for the fight.
“I sacrificed everything to fight one of the top pound-for-pound ranked fighters, and I gave him a lesson, but for what. Boxing shame on you, my dreams have been stolen.”
While Taylor’s record and Unified World titles remain in tact, he acknowledged his performance ‘wasn’t my best’ and still maintained that he won.
Taylor said: “I thought I started slow. Once I got into my rhythm I caught him with the bigger shots. He hit me with some good shots, and I know it was not my best performance.
“I put a lot of pressure on myself as it was my first time fighting here in three years, but I believe I got the win 100%. I wanted to put on a good show, and it meant I have let him have too much success.
“Overall I scored the bigger and better shots and the more meaningful shots, and I knew I won the fight. In the second half of the fight I started taking over, and I got the win.
“I made the weight well but it’s getting harder. That most likely will be my last fight at 140lbs. I left it late to start the preparation of the weight cut after the injury, and it showed a bit in the performance.
“I know I won the fight.”

Final quotes from the main event fighters ahead of tomorrow night’s showdown:
JOSH TAYLOR:
“All I’m thinking about is Jack Catterall. He’s trying to take away what I’ve worked so hard to get. I’ve cleaned out the division. He’s getting a shot at the jackpot in one fight. I’m going to put him in his place on Saturday.”
“He’s good. We’ll find out on Saturday, but he’s in for a long night. A long, painful methodical beatdown on Saturday. I don’t see a way that he can beat me in this fight. I don’t know how he’s going to do it, but I’m prepared for every way. Whatever he brings, I’m more than prepared for.”
Jack Catterall
“I’ve been mandatory for the WBO title. After waiting two years, I’ve got a chance now to capture the undisputed. I’ve not just come up here to make up the numbers. I’ve been waiting two years for this opportunity.”
“I think the respect has been there. Josh and I know that the respect is out of the window once the bell goes. We can shake hands after. We’re going to punch each other’s heads in, and that’s it.”

OVO Hydro, Glasgow, Scotland – 26 February 2022
Two-time Cuban Olympic gold medalist Robeisy “El Tren” Ramirez will cross the pond to battle Irish veteran Eric Donovan in a 10-round featherweight battle Saturday, Feb. 26 at OVO Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland.
Ramirez-Donovan highlights a loaded undercard before the highly anticipated junior welterweight showdown between Scottish undisputed world champion Josh “The Tartan Tornado” Taylor and undefeated WBO No. 1 contender Jack “El Gato” Catterall.
The entire Taylor-Catterall card will stream live and exclusively in the United States on ESPN+.
“Ever since that shocking loss in his professional debut, Robeisy Ramirez has shown why he was one of the top fighters from the 2016 Rio Olympics,” said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum. “Robeisy fought all over the world during his amateur career, and we are thrilled that he will be able to showcase his skills for the Scottish fans.”
Ramirez (8-1, 4 KOs) is no stranger to fighting on British soil. At the 2012 London Olympics, he stunned the flyweight field as a 16-1 underdog to win gold. Ramirez won a second gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics and defected from Cuba in July 2018.
Following a split decision defeat to Adan Gonzales in his August 2019 pro debut, Ramirez has won eight straight fights, including a shutout decision win over Gonzales in their 2020 rematch. Ramirez shined on the Tyson Fury-Deontay Wilder III undercard last October, dominating the previously unbeaten Orlando Gonzalez over 10 rounds. Donovan (14-1, 8 KOs), a one-time Irish amateur star from Athy, has won two fights since an August 2020 TKO loss to Zelfa Barrett.
Ramirez said, “Ever since I won my first Olympic gold medal in London, I’ve wanted to fight again in this part of the world. Scottish fans are incredibly passionate, and I can’t wait to put on a great show for them in front of a sold-out arena. My opponent is a tough Irishman, and I will be at my very best to come out victorious.”

OVO Hydro, Glasgow, Scotland – 26 February 2022
The Scottish Heavyweight Championship was last contested in 1951: George VI was King; Ezzard Charles was World Heavyweight Champion; Nat King Cole had the hit Too Young; Marlon Brando and Vivien Leigh lit up the big screen in A Streetcar Named Desire; Tottenham Hotspur were Football League Champions and the Video Tape Recorder was invented.
Now, 71 years later, the ‘vacant’ tag will be removed from the title when Glasgow giants Nick ‘The Glasgow Warrior’ Campbell (4-0-0, 4 KO’s) and Jay ‘The Ghost’ McFarlane (12-5-0, 5 KO’s) collide for the Caledonian mantle on the undercard of the massive Unified World Super-Lightweight title clash between Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall on Saturday 26th February, promoted by BOXXER and Top Rank, at the OVO Hydro, Glasgow, live and exclusive on Sky Sports.
When Glasgow rivals George Stern and Hugh McDonald challenged for the title at the Recreation Ground in Alloa on 22 June 1951, Hibernian FC won the Scottish Division A title; future prime minister Gordon Brown was born and boxing legend-to-be Ken Buchanan was just six years old.
Stern came out the victor that night winning in the seventh round after McDonald was disqualified for a low blow, but Campbell and McFarlane are both promising to deliver a more conclusive ending in their fight.
Campbell, a former professional rugby player with the Glasgow Warriors and Jersey Reds, has raced to a perfect unbeaten four fights winning all by KO in just eight rounds of action. The 6ft 7in giant, is also on a mission to become the first ever Scot to win the British Heavyweight title.
“This is a massive fight card and brilliant opportunity to shine in my home city and live on Sky Sports. I’m shocked that the title hasn’t been contested for so long but it will be firmly around my waist come the end of the fight,” said Campbell.
“McFarlane’s a tough guy, but he’s just another guy standing in the way of my goal and what I want to achieve in the sport. I aim to put on a thorough professional performance and get that stoppage. The British title is my aspiration, one step at a time though, McFarlane is my first stop to get the Scottish title.”
McFarlane has experienced plenty of life’s ups and downs in his 23 years, but the larger-than-life character sees this as another step towards his dream of becoming a champion. When he was 10 he spent time in a Caribbean orphanage with his brother following a holiday where his parents were arrested for drug smuggling.
He was living in temporary accommodation when he signed his first pro contract and after just two wins he was given a slot on the undercard of Gennady Golovkin v Daniel Jacobs at the iconic Madison Square Garden and was then back in his ‘scatter flat’.
“Campbell can’t beat me, when my head is straight, the only person who can beat me is me. He might be 6ft 7in and a monster but everyone is the same height when they’re lying down. It doesn’t make a difference to me, I’ve the experience and power over him and this is a golden opportunity for me to get me where I want to be,” said McFarlane.
“This is the fight of my life, winning the Scottish Heavyweight title for me will be bigger than Andy Murray winning Wimbledon. I’ve had to contend with a lot in life but boxing has been my saviour and I want to make history in a sport that’s done good for me.”
BOXXER talent featuring on the card begins with BOXXER Series Super-Lightweight tournament winner Cori Gibbs (16-0-0, 3 KO’s) who saw off three former champions – Tom Farrell, Lee Appleyard and Sean Dodd – in one November night to take the grand prize.
In Glasgow, the undefeated Birmingham hot-shot will commence his new long-term promotional deal with BOXXER in an eight-round contest as he looks to capitalise on his sensational tournament victory and push on towards championship titles.
Rising female star Ebonie Jones (1-0-0) has her second pro fight against Glenrothes’ Effy Kathopouli over six rounds at super-bantamweight. Portsmouth’s Jones, a former Team GB standout amateur and British Army soldier, made her pro debut last October with a points win over Vaida Masiokaite.
Edinburgh cruiserweight ace Scott Forrest, a longtime sparring partner of former World Heavyweight Champion Anthony Joshua, sets out on his professional journey when he makes his pro debut in a six-round contest. Born in South Africa, Forrest relocated to Forth near Lanark as a five-year-old. He competed at the 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games, where he faced some of the world’s best boxers.
Top Rank talent featuring on the card sees the exciting prospect Robeisy Ramirez (8-1-0, 4 KO’s) make his UK debut when he faces tough Irishman Eric Donovan (14-1-0, 8) in a ten-round featherweight contest.
The highly skilled southpaw is a Cuban prodigy whose exceptional talent earned him gold medals at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics. He holds amateur victories over current WBO World Super-Featherweight Champion Shakur Stevenson and WBA Interim World Champion Michael Conlan.
Red hot Irish welterweight prospect Paddy ‘The Real Deal’ Donovan (7-0-0, 5 KO’s) looks to maintain his unbeaten record when he features in a six-round contest. The 23-year-old southpaw from Limerick has looked sensational so far. In his last fight, he destroyed Argentina’s Jose Luis Castillo inside one round.
Making his highly anticipated pro debut in the featherweight division will be amateur star Kurt Walker from Lisburn. Walker won bronze in the 2017 European Championships, silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and gold at both the 2018 EU Championships and 2019 European Games. Walker was just one victory short of a medal in Tokyo after defeating world champion Mirazizbek Mirzakhalilov.
Another sensational amateur talent making his pro debut will be the Three-Time National Elite Champion and 2018 EU Championships Bronze Medallist Kieran Molloy from Galway, Ireland, who features in a six-round super-welterweight contest to open his account. Malloy is trained by renowned coach Angel Fernandez.
Finally completing the card will be up-and-coming Coatbridge featherweight prospect Mark McKeown (5-0-0, 2 KO’s) and Glasgow super-lightweight Craig McIntyre (12-0-1, 5 KO’s).
