British junior lightweight contender Archie “Sharpshooter” Sharp has designs on a world title shot, but he must keep his unbeaten record intact. Sharp, ranked No. 2 by the WBO, will defend his WBO Global belt in a 10-rounder this Friday, Oct. 29 at London’s York Hall against Alexis Boureima Kabore.

In the 10-round co-feature, Kazakh prodigy Tursynbay Kulakhmet will defend his WBC International 154-pound belt versus Dominican veteran Juan Carlos Abreu.

Sharp-Kabore and Kulakhmet-Abreu will top a bill streaming live and exclusively in the United States on ESPN+ at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT.

Sharp (20-0, 9 KOs) is a former WBO European belt-holder who fought on an ESPN+-streamed Michael Conlan/Carl Frampton doubleheader in August 2020, edging Jeff Ofori by a single point. He made his 2021 debut on July 10 and survived a pair of cuts to top Mexican upstart Diego Andrade Chavez via unanimous decision. Kabore (28-4, 7 KOs), from Burkina Faso, has fought the majority of his bouts in his home nation and is making his European debut against Sharp. He is a former African Union and WBC International champion at 122 pounds.

Kulakhmet (4-0, 3 KOs), a former amateur standout, won the WBC International belt in his second pro fight with a dominant decision over Macaulay McGowan. He defends that belt in his toughest test to date in Abreu (23-6-1, 21 KOs), a 10-year pro who has fought the likes of former world champion Humberto Soto, Jamal James, Jesus Soto Karass, Egidijus “Mean Machine” Kavaliauskas, Alexander Besputin and Jaron “Boots” Ennis.

In other streaming action on ESPN+:

  • Junior middleweight prospect Jordan Reynolds (2-0) looks to make it three for three against Italy’s Rodolfo Paterno (2-4-2, 1 KO) in a six-rounder.
  • Shiloh Defreitas, a Jamaican-born fighter who now resides in England, will make his pro debut in a six-round junior welterweight tilt against 123-fight veteran Fonz Alexander.
  • Former Southern Area welterweight champion Sam Gilley (11-1, 5 KOs) hopes to rebound from his first career loss against Daniel Lartey (14-5-1, 12 KOs) in a six-rounder at junior middleweight.
  • Dublin-born junior welterweight Pierce O’Leary (7-0, 3 KOs) will aim for his third KO in four fights against Siar Ozgul (15-6, 3 KOs) in an eight-rounder.

Archie Sharp is hoping to move a step closer to a world title showdown with new WBO super-featherweight champion Shakur Stevenson – provided he can defeat Alexis Boureima Kabore when they collide on Friday’s #MTKFightNight.

This week’s action-packed card at York Hall in London will be broadcast live in the US on ESPN+ in association with Top Rank and worldwide on IFL TV, and is headlined by the WBO Global super-featherweight title fight between Sharp (20-0, 9 KOs) and Kabore (28-4, 7 KOs).

Sharp is #2 in the WBO rankings, putting him on the cusp of a potential clash with Stevenson, who won the WBO super-featherweight title win a victory over Jamel Herring this past weekend. With that in mind, Sharp is determined to secure a battle with the new champion in the near future.

He said: “I know that with my skills and my ability, I can showcase an unbelievable performance and beat Shakur Stevenson. I haven’t peaked yet, I’m only 26-years-old. From now until I’m 30, I’ll be in my prime. I’ve had 20 fights, and they say it’s 20 for learning and 20 for earning.

“Shakur boxed well against Herring. He was very sharp and looked strong. I think Herring’s age showed. When he boxed Frampton they were both towards the end, but when he was in with a young, hungry fighter, it showed from the first jab thrown.

“Herring was always a second behind Shakur. He was a bit older and slower so I feel that helped Shakur look even better than he was. I was definitely impressed with Shakur’s performance though, so you can’t take that away from him. He got the job done.

“When you have young fighters like myself and Shakur, the speed and youth is the difference. I’ve been learning over time and I’m hitting my peak now. The fans are going to see a completely different Archie Sharp when I fight on Friday.

“I’m headlining my first show, and I’m grateful to MTK Global and the support I’ve had for getting me in this position. I’m looking forward to staying active and keeping the momentum going. That’s definitely key to my success.

“I had a year out of the ring before my last fight due to injuries and various other things, so now I’m blessed to be back out as I look to keep the sharpness.

“I’ve had a look at Kabore and I’m expecting him to bring a well-schooled performance. He went the distance with Rey Vargas who was an unbeaten world champion, so he’s been in the ring with some high-calibre fighters and will be tough.

“I think he’ll look to get behind the jab, which is perfect for me as I want to be in the ring with someone who has skill, as it will allow me to really showcase mine.”

Elsewhere on Friday’s card, Tursynbay Kulakhmet defends his WBC International super-welterweight title against Juan Carlos Abreu, Pierce O’Leary takes on Siar Ozgul, Sam Gilley meets Daniel Lartey, Jordan Reynolds returns against Rodolfo Paterno, Shiloh Defreitas makes his professional debut against Fonz Alexander, Sean McGoldrick fights Stephen Jackson, Will Hamilton squares off with Ivo Zednicek, debutant Lerone Harrison collides with Simas Volosinasand Joe Giles enters the paid ranks for the first time.

A massive #MTKFightNight event will take place at York Hall in London on Friday 29 October – headlined by a WBO Global super-featherweight title fight between unbeaten Archie Sharp and Alexis Boureima Kabore.

The action-packed card next month will be broadcast live in the US on ESPN+ in association with Top Rank and worldwide on IFL TV, and will also feature a number of talented rising stars.

Sharp (20-0, 9 KOs) is back following his victory over Diego Andrade Chavez in July, as the WBO’s #2 ranked fighter looks to move one step closer to a world title shot.

Standing in his way is Kabore (28-4, 7 KOs), who has previously gone the distance with former world champion Rey Vargas, and held the WBC International super-bantamweight title.

Elsewhere on next month’s bill, Kazakh sensation Tursynbay Kulakhmet (4-0, 3 KOs) makes another defence of his WBC International super-welterweight title, taking on knockout specialist Juan Carlos Abreu (23-6-1, 21 KOs).

Kulakhmet has risen through the ranks at a rapid speed since making his debut last year, but now jumps up in competition once again to meet Abreu, who has faced Jaron Ennis and Egidijus Kavaliauskas in his career.

Unbeaten star Shabaz Masoud (8-0, 2 KOs) will have his hardest challenge yet, going up against former British and Commonwealth title challenger James Beech Jnr (13-2, 2 KOs).

Dublin hotshot Pierce O’Leary (7-0, 3 KOs) also makes his highly-anticipated return, while undefeated fighters collide in a great domestic battle, as Jordan Reynolds (2-0) meets Randal Barlow (2-0).

Former Southern Area champion Sam Gilley (11-1, 5 KOs) squares off with Daniel Lartey (14-4-1, 12 KOs), and hard-hitting cruiserweight Will Hamilton (2-0, 1 KO) takes on Ivo Zednicek, plus three exciting debutants will enter the professional ranks on the card too, with ‘Sugar Shy’ Shiloh Defreitas, Joe Giles and Lerone Harrison each competing.

MTK Global Promoter Lee Eaton said: “We’re delighted to be back with a bang with yet another stacked MTK Fight Night in October. Over the past year it’s been clear that we pride ourselves on making competitive cards full of 50-50 fights, and that will be the same again for this show.

“It’s a great privilege to have Archie Sharp headlining the event in what will be a tough test against Alexis Boureima Kabore. Archie has world title ambitions, and this fight gives him the chance to show everybody that he belongs at that level.

“We have some of the very best undefeated rising stars in action too, including Tursynbay Kulakhmet, Shabaz Masoud and Pierce O’Leary, plus two undefeated fighters putting it all on the line early in their careers as Jordan Reynolds faces Randal Barlow.

“Sam Gilley, William Hamilton, Joe Giles, Sugar Shy and Lerone Harrison are on the bill too, with the remaining opponents for those fights set to be announced shortly, so this looks certain to be yet another can’t miss MTK Fight Night event.”
