Sugar Ray Robinson vs. José Basora

 Scranton Stadium in Pennsylvania, USA – August 25th, 1950

Sugar Ray Robinson, considered by many as the best fighter in history, successfully defended his middleweight crown-or rather, the Pennsylvania Athletic Commission version of it, by stopping José Basora in the very first round.  The fight was at the Scranton Stadium in Pennsylvania. It ended in just  55 seconds. The Referee was Johnny Kelly.

Sugar Ray Robinson vs. Randolph Turpin

July 10th, 1951

Britain’s Randolph Turpin, against all the odds and received wisdom, defeated Sugar Ray Robinson by unanimous decision.

This rugged, ragged, and rumbustious contest took place at Earls Court Arena in London. Randy ripped off Sugar Ray’s middleweight crown. The “Leamington Licker,’ fought the fight of his life. The result reverberated, as a seismic shock, with Sugar Ray badly gashed and outmuscled, ruining his fabled European Tour. The third man in the ring was Eugene Henderson.

Just sixty four days later in the Polo, Ray was again badly cut, but ruthlessly rallied to pulverize Randolph in a torrid tenth. Elusive here today and gone glory for the Midlander, which lasted less than three months! His first, his last, his anything… his everything!

March 25th, 1958

Sugar Ray Robinson considered by many as the greatest fighter of them all, became world middleweight champion for the 5th time, defeating Carmen Basilio, by a split decision after fifteen rugged and absorbing rounds. It happened at the Chicago Stadium. Referee Frank Sikora favored Basilio, but Judges, John Bray and Franklin Spike McAdams, saw Robinson as victorious. The magnificent and highly competitive bout was lauded as the best of the year  by  “The Ring” magazine.

January 22, 1960.-  Fireman Paul Pender, a favorite son of Boston, became middleweight world champion defeating the exceptional Sugar Ray Robinson, by split decision after 15 torrid rounds.

The bout took place at the Boston Garden in Massachusetts. The Referee was Joe Zapustas. The Judges were Joe Santoro and John Norton. The Referee back then was also and incredibly expected to score the fight! He saw Robinson, as the victor.

Six months a rematch concluded with exactly the very same result.

Un día como hoy, Paul Pender derrotó a Sugar Ray Robinson

22 de enero, 1960.- Paul Pender, peleador favorito de los aficionados de Bostón se convirtió en campeón mundial de peso medio derrotando contra la mayor parte de los pronósticos al inmortal Sugar Ray Robinson, mediante una decisión dividida en 15 rounds. El encuentro tuvo como escenario el Boston Garden de Boston, Massachusetts. Actuó como referi Joe Zapustas y los jueces fueron Joe Santoro y John Norton. El referi, que entonces llevaba puntuación, votó a favor de Robinson. Seis meses después, este recibió la revancha en el mismo sitio y volvió a perder por decisión dividida.
