Focus on: UBO Champion Yedil Kozhamberdiyev
Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) Inter-Continental Cruiserweight Champion Yedil Kozhamberdiyev got off to a rough start in his professional boxing career.
He turned pro late, at thirty-one, in July of 2017, easily disposing of Cavarius Haskins in one round at the Uptown Live in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA.
In his next two fights he was upset by journeymen Patrick Pierre and Ruslan Rodzivich, losing six-round decisions to both.
So he entered 2018 at 1-2, but since then he has not looked back and won ten straight fights inside the distance, fighting in Russia, Mexico and his native Kazakhstan.
In October of 2019 he captured his first pro title, stopping Azerbaijani Kazim Umodov for the vacant IBA Asia Cruiserweight belt.
Eleven months later he added the WBC and WBA Asia titles to his collection, scoring a fourth round stoppage of Uzbekistan´s Mukhitdin Rajapbaev.
In his most recent outing, on December 11 in Almaty, he won the UBO Inter-Continental title with a first round blast-out of previously undefeated Hamza Gunes from Turkey.
Now 11-2 (11), Kozhamberdiyev is knocking on the door of potential world title fights, and has the power to be a danger to anyone in the division.
After losing to Pierre (1-2) and Rodzivich (14-24) people could have been forgiven for writing him off at the end of 2017. But he is still here, and is living proof that a few early set-backs is not the end of the world.
