Tasha Jonas faces off with Chris Namus at final press conference
Tasha Jonas vs. Chris Namus
AO Arena, in Manchester, England – 19 February 2022
Tasha Jonas has vowed that it will be third time lucky when she faces Chris Namus for the vacant WBO super-welterweight title on Saturday.
The two women will meet on the undercard of the Amir Khan vs. Kell Brook event, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Box Office.
Jonas (10-2-1, 7 KOs) and Namus (25-6-0, 1 NC, 8 KOs) were both in confident moods as they spoke to the press on Thursday, as they each made their intentions perfectly clear.
Jonas said: “I wouldn’t have taken this opportunity if I didn’t believe in myself. The weight jump isn’t a case of eating more or dieting less, I’ve had a nutritionist for the full camp and a strength and conditioning coach to help me, so a lot of science has come into it along with the training with Joe Gallagher.
“I won’t be coming in at 154, I’ll be lighter. My speed, accuracy and power will still be there. People don’t see the work that goes on behind the scenes and the sacrifices that not just me, but every athlete puts in.
“My daughter is so involved, and to finally be able to show her a belt and show that you never give up, and that any dream is possible.”
Namus said: “I am really excited. This is a big opportunity for me. I have been working for a short time as I’ve only had 10 days’ notice for this fight, but I’ve been working in the gym for two months.
“I’ve prepared for this opportunity, and we can have an amazing fight. I am strong, and the pressure is all on Tasha. I have had a title before and she has never had one.”
