The Best Pound for Pound Women
Nowadays, thanks to the tenacity and the iron will of so many, women’s boxing is now an unstoppable force that until recently, was dominated by man, and it is that, several years ago, women fighters were always overshadowed and in a certain way relegated by gender prejudices, since it was believed that they were not qualified to practice boxing, thus they were not recognized in the sports field.
However, after many years of intense fighting by women fighters, in 1993 USA Boxing, the regulator of amateur boxing in the United States, accepted women’s boxing throughout the country. However, many experts assure that the birth of modern women’s boxing occurred on March 15, 1996 with the fight between Christy Martin and Deirdre Gogarty, despite not being the main fight, the courage of the two warriors inside the ring surprised the fans, who without thinking surrendered to them and gave the match a standing ovation.

Katie Taylor
Current WBC lightweight world champion who, after beating Delfine Persoon in 2019, became undisputed champion. As amateur, Taylor got several triumphs among them, five consecutive world championships, six European championships, gold in the European Games, five European Union championships and one gold in the Olympics. For which she was declared in 2016 as the best Irish athlete of the generation.

Originally from Flint, Michigan, Claressa is considered an icon of American boxing, not only for conquering two gold medals during the London Olympics in 2012 and Rio 2016, but also as a professional boxer since her debut in 2016 She has got several triumphs that have led her to position herself as number one, so much so that on March 5, her fight against Marie Eve Dicaire was the first women’s fight to headline a pay-per-view card since Laila Ali and Jacqui Frazier-Lyde in 2001.
