Troy Jones vs. Pavol Garoj

Eastside Rooms, Birmingham, England – 25 February 2022

Troy Jones will be looking to strike a balance between boxer and brawler when he takes part in his third pro contest.

His trio of paid fights will occur when BCB Promotions stage their first show at the Eastside Rooms, on Woodcock Street in Birmingham, with fight night set for Friday (February 25).

Jones, who tops the bill in a six round contest against Slovakia’s Pavol Garoj, has racked up two points whitewashes, since turning over last October, which were both 40-36 scorelines, with the victor in command.

First came success over much-bigger Bulgarian Daniel Borisov, where keeping to the boxing basics was enough to record a landslide verdict.

Jones’ pro bow came in his home city, at the H Suite, Edgbaston, before more ring time at the Holiday Inn Queensway, in December.

It was far more toe-to-toe when he tackled Christian Hoskin Gomez, as Jones went hell for leather trying to score his maiden pro TKO.

He couldn’t find the finish, but maintained his run of winning every round as a professional, which the aim is to maintain going forward.

The 23-year-old Brummie, who is from Chelmsley Wood, is trained by John Costello and has an amateur pedigree, from his time with Solihull Boxing Club.

As an amateur, he reached two area finals and a national semi-final, in the NABC and England Elite Championships, with a ledger of 12 wins from 21 bouts.

Jones said: “I’ve had a few days off, after my last fight, but I was in the gym over Christmas and we hit it hard in the new year. I’m learning all of the time, and getting sharper.

“I’ve been keeping myself busy and that’s what I want. I’m always up for taking the opportunities to box, especially this early on in my pro career.

“I’m happy with both of my performances, especially my debut, when I didn’t let the occasion get to me and I wouldn’t allow myself to play to the crowd.

“The other guy was a lot heavier than me, so I just stuck behind my jab and kept him at range. It’s good to get the rounds in, but stoppages are nice as well!

“The second time, I went a bit gung ho, but I did well on the inside and had him hurt a few times, as well. I should have stepped back and looked for the shot to get him out of there.

“He didn’t land many clean shots, at all, and I was still winning each round comfortably, so I can’t be too hard on myself. I’ll just make some adjustments for the next one.

“I think I’ve already proved I can box and mix it up, it’s just about getting as much experience as I can now and improving every time.

“At the rate I’m going, I could be in a position to reach domestic level next year, so I’m all about getting the numbers up, so that my name is out there.”

Tickets for the Eastside Rooms bill are available, priced at £40 standard or £75 VIP ringside with buffet, directly from the boxers or by visiting myfighttickets.com.
