Troy Williamson Stops Kieran Smith in British Title Final Eliminator
Troy Williamson Defeats Kieran Smith
Troy Williamson became mandatory challenger for the British super-welterweight title as he stopped Kieran Smith during their fight on Friday.
The two men went head to head at York Hall in London live on BT Sport, with the fight serving as a final eliminator for the British super-welterweight title.
It was a close competitive fight between Williamson (16-0-1, 12 KOs) and Smith (16-1, 7 KOs), but it was the Darlington man who made the breakthrough when he landed a barrage of punches in round six.
Smith had given his all up until that point and will definitely come back, but he was unable to recover, with Williamson getting a very impressive stoppage victory.
Williamson said: “It was a good, close fight. I trained hard for a good 12 rounds as I knew what kind of guy Kieran is. He was an exceptional talent and a big statement was made by myself tonight.
“I thought I hurt him early, but my coach told me it’s a 12 round fight so don’t rush and just pick the shots, so that’s what I did.
“That was a final eliminator, so I want the British title next. I’ve shown that I’m capable of mixing it with anybody and can beat anybody on their day. I’m in this sport for these fights, and I’m ready for them now.”
