Vergil Ortiz Jr vs. Egidijus Kavaliauskas
The Ford Center at The Star, Frisco, Texas, USA 14/8/21
There was plenty of respect between Vergil Ortiz Jr and Egidijus Kavaliauskas as they met at their press conference on Thursday – but they both promised to give the fans a fight to remember ahead of their showdown this weekend.
The Golden Boy event takes place at The Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas on Saturday, and will be broadcast live on DAZN.
It sees Ortiz Jr (17-0, 17 KOs) look to extend his incredible winning streak when he faces Kavaliauskas (22-1-1, 18 KOs), and they were each promising fireworks when they went head to head at their press conference on Thursday.
Ortiz Jr said: “I feel good. This is my second time fighting in Texas and now I’m in the main event which is cool. I’m ready to put on a good show.
“When you get in the ring it’s down to business, that’s the way I am. This is a fight that everyone has been asking for, and our styles compliment each other really well.
“We’re going to get an exciting fight, and I’ll look forward to watching it afterwards. I’m as close to 100% as a boxer can get. I’ve prepared hard for this fight and I’m ready for Saturday.”
Kavaliauskas said: “I love to fight. This is what I do and this is going to be a crazy fight. We know each other’s style and we’ll go in there and give it our all.
“He is a warrior and he brings fire to the ring and I like that. We’re going to give the fans what they want. My camp was very good and all the hard work has been done, now it’s time for the show.”
