For the second year, the WBC and WBC Cares helped sponsor the Christy Martin Title Tournament in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Christy, who`s one of the pioneers of women`s boxing and an all- time great in her own right, is also an invaluable, popular and courageous Cares Ambassador. Characteristically, she pulled off a magnificent, memorable and wonderful show. In spite of the pandemic, almost 400 hopeful amateurs fought bravely as well as skilfully and enthusiastically in the three- ring event at Freedom Hall.
The days were long, fruitful and tremendously exciting. The clubs that thrilled at and savoured at participating, came from as far away as PR and Massachusetts, glad and honoured to be with Christy and at last, to be back in action.
The beautiful and prestigious WBC Amateur Belt was the grand prize. At the end of the tournament, it looked like a four-club tie, but then, the Marines, coached by Joel Higgins, pulled off a sensational victory.
Three days of excitement, where everyone won!
