WBC Tribute to Boxing Legend Marvelous Marvin Hagler

Today, during the traditional WBC virtual weekly press conference, this time on Wednesday, the boxing family stood together, to remember the one and only Marvelous Marvin Hagler.

Candles were lit and tears were shed in Marvin´s honor, to accompany him on his journey of no return to the next world.

Pepe Sulaimán created a magnificent film, exploring the essence of this unique man, who became the legend. WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman spoke for everyone, when he said that this has been a terrible and profound shock, an unreal feeling that A Great, but above everything, a beloved family friend…is forever gone.

He recalled the most thrilling round in history when Marvin Hagler and Tommy Hearns waged an outright war from the outset, in 1985. At the end of those fabulous first three minutes, during which there was so much action, the enraptured audience gave them a thunderous standing ovation the like of which has not been seen before or since.

Mauricio commented that Marvin’s great achievements immortalized him on the emblematic Green and Gold Belt, as for the sixth and latest generation, we can see images of our Lifetime President José Sulaiman,  plus the photos of the two best fighters in each division.

in the case of the middleweight division, there are the pictures of Marvelous Marvin Hagler and Carlos Monzón, who represent the very best of the best.

That first sixth generation belt was presented in the fight between the Argentine champion Sergio Martínez and his challenger Miguel Cotto.

Mauricio also recalled with fondness, how Marvin was always an integral part of the WBC Cares events, the countless times they met at WBC Conventions, remembering his charisma, wonderful smile, good humor and above all his devotion for loved ones.

Today, the entire boxing family deeply mourns  the departure of our beloved champion and from the bottom of our hearts we send our deepest condolences to his family and friends. We will forever honor the legacy and memory of unforgettable Marvelous Marvin Hagler.
