Brandon Figueroa Presented With WBC Green Belt
This afternoon, our WBC weekly press conference culminated with a great celebration, as we welcomed the new WBC super bantamweight world champion Brandon Lee Figueroa and his close knit family who travelled all the way from Texas to Mexico, to be presented with his Green and Gold belt that he won on Saturday, May 15 by stopping the previously undefeated Luis Nery.
For the new champion, that Saturday night was extremely special because he crystallized and gloriously realized the dream for which he began as pro boxer, winning the most prestigious belt: the Green and Gold.
“I feel very blessed and grateful to everyone who has made it possible for me to be here.
“My family and I have sacrificed many things, but today I can say that all that has been worth it, I come from a humble family, from parents who worked hard to get ahead and that makes me value everything I have even more.
“I can hardly express how I feel at this moment. I am very happy and full of enthusiasm, and I can only reciprocate this, by being a worthy representative of the WBC and Mexico, since I consider myself a son of the Aztec land.”
And then… moment everyone was waiting for came, and from the hands of the WBC president, Mr. Mauricio Sulaimán, Brandon was presented with the Green and Gold Belt, as well as the champion’s bracelet, a unique moment that brought tears to his father Omar, who confessed that seeing a son crowned as WBC champion for the second time is the greatest satisfaction he can experience.
He added that seeing his boxing idols like Humberto González, Pipino Cuevas, Carlos Zarate and Lupe Pintor, -who specially attended to this event- is a dream come true because he has always greatly admired them. He said that as a child he always dreamed of being boxer; However, life led him to another path: to guide his children to conquer Green and Gold glory.
With a huge smile cradling the famous Belt, Brandon thanked everyone for the beautiful welcoming reception, punctuated with rounds of applause and speaking perfect Spanish, he ended his speech with the phrase: Viva Mexico!
