The 52 semi-finals took place on the 7th competition day at the EUBC Junior European Boxing Championships in Tbilisi today. Cyprus’ Laila Abdullatif writes a new history for the country becoming the finalist of the competitions.
In total, 19 countries earned at least one medal in Tbilisi, and among them, thirteen have boxers in the finals. Russia and Ukraine are the most successful nations at the tournament.
Georgia’s Gor Ayvazyan defeated his neighboring rival in the pinweight (46kg)
The anticipated battle in the men’s pinweight (46kg) was held between Georgia’s Gor Ayvazyan and Armenia’s Erik Arstamyan. The Armenian moved ahead without any pause in the first round and tried to dictate the high tempo and surprise Ayvazyan. Arstamyan’s hands were like guns in the opening minutes and he had an advantage after the first round. Ayvazyan proved that he is also a real fighter and began the second round in the same rhythm as the Armenian the first. Their contest was a manly battle, and Ayvazyan advanced to the finals. The Georgian boxer’s last opponent will be Ukraine’s Renat Chubrevychev who eliminated Russia’s Viacheslav Rogozin.
“This was not my first tough bout at this championships. I felt it is not so easy but I could win this difficult semi-final. I am so thankful for my team coaches, my personal trainer and all of my fans in Georgia. This will be my second final at European Boxing Championships after 2019 and I am looking forward to it,” said Georgia’s Gor Ayvazyan.
Cyprus’ 15-year-old Laila Abdullatif writes new history for her country
Laila Abdullatif from Cyprus won the title of the 2019 EUBC European Schoolgirls Boxing Championships in Tbilisi and returned to continue her unbeaten record in the recent two years. She defeated Russia’s Viktoria Sharova in the final of the Nations Junior Cup one month ago and tried to control their re-match in Tbilisi. Abdullatif landed quicker punches and controlled the first round against the 15-year-old Russian. The Cyprian used excellent hooks to catch the rival and her game strategy worked well in the second and third rounds. Abdullatif will be boxing for her next title with Italy’s Graziella Schininina who eliminated Turkey’s Humeyra Balta.
“I met with this Russian girl in an international event in Serbia and I defeated her. This time it was much easier for me, I felt I can beat her once again. I believe the last round was the best for me in this semi-final. The final is coming soon and I am ready for the next gold medal,” said Abdullatif.
Germany’s Mei-Li Folk amazed once again
Germany’s Mei-Li Folk astonished on the previous stages of the women’s bantamweight (54kg) in Tbilisi and she prepared a hard work against Serbia’s Dragana Jovanovic who claimed a silver medal at the EUBC Junior European Boxing Championships last November. The German southpaw landed excellent hooks and jabs from a long-distance against the attacking Serbian. Folk performed even better in the second round and she knew how to handle with her Serbian opponent in their semi-final. The German overcame Jovanovic also in the third round and eliminated the last year’s finalist. She will meet with Russia’s Evita Averyanova in the gold medal bout.
“I was expecting a hard battle against the Serbian who is physically strong. I did not feel the distance well in the first round but from the second I found the right combinations against Jovanovic. I believe that the second round was my best today so I can go for the gold now,” commented her success Germany’s Mei-Li Folk who had the technical advantage today.
Novinskaya vs. Sebe for the final of the women’s lightweight (60kg)
Russia’s Daria Novinskaya defeated Italy’s EUBC European Schoolgirls Champion Valentina Marra in the final of the Junior Nations Cup one month ago and the two experienced talents met once again in the semi-finals of the EUBC Junior European Boxing Championships. The 16-year-old Russian used a similar aggressive style as in her quarter-final but Marra had good footwork to avoid most of the attacks. The Russian southpaw worked better in the attacks and defeated her main Italian rival once again. Therefore, Novinskaya can box for the title with Romania’s Andrea Sebe who eliminated Turkey’s Sudenaz Ballioglu with an excellent performance. Sebe used brilliant technical skills against the brave Turkish boxer and won the second semi-final in Tbilisi which is Romania’s first final place.
“I started boxing in 2017 and I would like to make my father proud of my results. My dream is to go the Olympic Games in 2024 but first I have an important final ahead in Tbilisi against a good Russian boxer,” said Romania’s Andrea Sebe after her semi-final.
Hungary’s No.1 Levente Olah is a finalist in Tbilisi
Hungary’s Levente Olah won all of his previous contests by RSC in the first round, and his semi-final rival, Turkey’s Abdulsamet Eroglu tried to survive the most dangerous opening two minutes. Olah caught his Turkish opponent a few times in the first round and he landed seriously strong shots also in the second. His Turkish opponent received three warnings in the semi-final and the referee disqualified him from the competition. Olah will be boxing for his first title with Russia’s Junior National Champion Ivan Chindykov who had a tough semi-final against Bulgaria’s Konstantin Kostov.
“I was expecting my Turkish rival to move a lot trying to avoid my punches. I did not expect that he would get so many cautions and warnings in the bout. I could not catch him as strong as I wanted but I won today and I have the chance to win the gold medal on Sunday,” commented his success Hungary’s 16-year-old Levente Olah.
Day 8 finals schedule of the EUBC Junior European Boxing Championships
The finals are scheduled after the rest day at the EUBC Junior European Boxing Championships in Tbilisi this Sunday. Twenty-six champions will be crowned in the Georgian capital. Watch it live on the AIBA Youtube channel.

A long competition day with 47 contests was held at the EUBC Junior European Boxing Championships in Tbilisi on Day 4. Poland’s Ivan Kucherenko used his height advantage effectively and advanced to the quarter-finals following his second success in Georgia.
The winners of today’s lightweight (60kg), light welterweight (63kg), welterweight (66kg), light middleweight (70kg), middleweight (75kg) and heavyweight (+80kg) contests became quarter-finalists.
Boxers who were born in 2005 and in 2006 are eligible to attend the EUBC Junior European Boxing Championships this year. Georgia’s capital hosted the last edition of the EUBC European Schoolboys and Schoolgirls Boxing Championships in 2019 and that age group can box once again in Tbilisi as junior athletes.
Altogether 111 girls and 224 boys are taking part in the new edition of the championships representing 29 different nations. Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain, Turkey and Ukraine are represented.
Poland’s Ivan Kucherenko used his height advantage
Poland arrived at the EUBC Junior European Boxing Championships with a well-prepared team. Light welterweight (63kg) boxer Ivan Kucherenko is a difficult opponent for everybody at the tournament. He is 10-15cm taller than anyone in his weight category and he used his longer hands against Belarus’ Maksim Zhurauleu who had a hard mission to move closer to Kucherenko. The Polish boxer stopped most of the Belarusian attacks and won their contest by unanimous decision.
‘I am so happy with my next success at the championships. I felt much better than in my first contest in Tbilisi and I could increase my speed this time. I like to compete a lot as well as the series of fights, and I am ready to win my quarter-final in Georgia,” commented his success Kucherenko.
Gugliotta and Guglielman were Italy’s leaders on the last preliminary day
Italy’s Samuele Gugliotta started his campaign against Latvia’s Denis Sorokins and tried to control the middle of the ring. The younger Italian was quicker in the attacks, therefore, he could avoid Sorokins’ punches and his counter-punches reached the target in the first round. The Italian light welterweight (63kg) boxer felt the tempo even better in the second round and his technical skills controlled their bout. Gugliotta enjoyed the last round and he deserved to win their preliminary contest. His teammate, EUBC European Schoolboys Champion Tiziano Guglielman dominated in his contest against Belarus’ Mikita Bruyeu and advanced to the last eight in the light middleweight (70kg).
Giorgi Natroshvili’s energetic performance in the light middleweight (70kg)
Finland’s Jimi Noioso opened his competition with success but his second rival was Georgia’s Giorgi Natroshvili who is a skilled boxer in the light middleweight (70kg). The Finnish boxer tried to move more on his feet but when he stopped, the Georgian used his quicker punches to catch him. Natroshvili landed quick left jabs in the second round while Noioso concentrated mostly on his defense. The Georgian impressed in the third round and the referee from Montenegro counted the Finnish boxer, therefore, Natroshvili advanced to the quarter-finals. The Georgian will be meeting with Germany’s Kahraman Uzun who stopped Romania’s Andrei Ilie Bratu without any problem.
Novikov and Kajaia performed well in the lightweight (60kg)
Israel’s Yehor Novikov competed at the pinweight (46kg) as a junior in 2020 but he moved up six divisions and represents his country in the lightweight (60kg). The Israeli talent met with Hungary’s Almos Lantos who is also a newcomer in this weight category. Novikov, who has Ukrainian roots, landed jabs from a longer distance in the first round and tried to control the fight. The Israeli boxer was able to keep his level until the end of the contest and eliminated his 16-year-old Hungarian rival. In the parallel bout of the first fight of the evening session, Georgia’s Demur Kajaia dominated his lightweight (60kg) contest against Belgium’s Lorenzo Camposeo.
Unexpected Israeli victory in the afternoon session
Another Poland’s tall boxer in action was Tobiasz Zarzeczny who had to meet with Israel’s newcomer Israel’s Siyel Jiryis in the last 16 of the light middleweight (70kg). The Israeli boxer won all of his contests at their Junior National Championships by RSC but the Polish hope was an experienced talent, therefore, his rival could expect strong resistance. Zarzeczny kept the Israeli boxer on a long distance. His footwork was also better than his opponent’s one in the first round. Jiryis increased his tempo and his strength controlled the contest in the second and third rounds which means the Israeli boxer joined the quarter-finals.
Day 5 schedule at the EUBC Junior European Boxing Championships
Forty women’s quarter-finals will be held on the fifth competition day at the EUBC Junior European Boxing Championships in Tbilisi tomorrow. Twelve of the female categories will be competing for the guaranteed medals in the Georgian capital.

AIBA has rescheduled the International Boxing Day from July 22 to August 27 to connect the date with the first edition of the AIBA World Boxing Championships, which was held in Havana, Cuba in 1974.
The competition was held between August 17 and August 30, 1974, where 11 champions were crowned and the host country topped the medal table.
International Boxing Day originated in Russia, in 2017, following the initiative of Umar Kremlev in his role as Secretary General of the Russian Boxing Federation. In 2019, AIBA recognized and designated International Boxing Day to be celebrated every year and encouraged the global boxing family, fans, partners and stakeholders to join forces in celebrating.
“International Boxing Day will be celebrated for the third time worldwide and this year it is a newly established holiday. Not only is the new date dedicated to a very special event in AIBA’s history, it also is more convenient for everyone to celebrate after the summer holidays. This year we expect more countries to join and more people to be involved. I truly believe this day is a great promotion for our sport worldwide,” AIBA President Mr. Umar Kremlev said.
AIBA will share further details on plans for International Boxing Day with the global boxing family in the coming weeks, to explain how they can be a part of the major milestone in the annual boxing calendar.

The International Boxing Association (AIBA) Board of Directors has voted in a fundamental change to the sport by amending the weight classes for youth and elite athletes at all AIBA competitions. Men’s weight categories will increase from 10 to 13, whilst women’s will rise from 10 to 12.
The decision is in force from August 1st, 2021.
The proposal was presented by AIBA Secretary General Mr. István Kovács during his report to the Board. He stressed that AIBA undertook a widespread consultation of stakeholders in men’s and women’s boxing before discussing and agreeing on the new weight classes during the Board meeting.
‘We believe this step will allow a greater pool of boxers to participate in the respective weight categories where they feel most strong and comfortable. We have collected all proposals from National Federations, as well as from respected AIBA Committees. Each voice was heard. This innovation will help boxing to develop from grassroots to elite,’ Mr. Kovács said.
‘We are implementing this crucial change now whilst widespread reform of AIBA’s whole competition structure is in process,’ said AIBA President Mr. Umar Kremlev. ‘I truly believe we must deliver more opportunities to our athletes; the new divisions will encourage more people from various countries to take up boxing, and allow more nations to win medals. The more medals we have, the more governments will pay attention to our sport and fund it around the globe.’
The changes have been made for the safety of boxers by ensuring easier weight management and equal fighting. The minimum weight for men was reduced from 49kg to 48kg. The spread between the first five categories is 3kg, between the 5th and 7th it is 3.5kg, between the 7th and 9th it is 4kg, and between the 9th and 10th is 5 kg, between 10th and 12th it is 6kg. The super heavyweight category starts from 92kg and has no limits.
The minimum weight for women remains the same at 48kg. However, the spread between first four weight classes is now 2kg. Between the 4th and 8th it is 3kg, between 8th and 9th it is 4 kg, from the 9thto the 10th it is 5kg, and from the 10th to the 11th it is 6kg. The heavyweight weight class remains the same at +81kg.

Boxen247.com Amateur Boxing AIBA, International Boxing Association 0
The International Boxing Association (AIBA) today revealed major developments in its drive to reform boxing with the appointment of independent governance expert Professor Dr. Ulrich Haas and confirmation that a major independent financial audit will be conducted, in addition to Professor Richard McLaren’s independent investigation into refereeing and judging.
The announcement was made by AIBA President Umar Kremlev during a press conference in Lausanne and marks the latest steps by AIBA to uphold the highest standards in governance, financial integrity and sports integrity.
Professor Ulrich Haas – who is currently leading the governance reform of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) – will chair an independent Governance Reform Group comprising legal and governance experts. The Group will review AIBA’s current governance structures, assess these structures against international best practice and issue concrete recommendations for further improvement. Meanwhile, AIBA is in the process of finalising an agreement with a major accounting firm to conduct an independent full-scope audit of the federation’s finances.
AIBA President Kremlev said:
“As I promised when elected AIBA president, AIBA is working on becoming a welcoming, strong and stable home for boxers around the world. We have appointed the best independent experts to guide us towards the highest standards of governance and sports integrity. We have also secured financial stability for our organisation with the help of sponsorship from Gazprom, with more commercial support to come. But we will not stop there. All of these things are coming together as part of the huge shift we are delivering so that boxers can be sure of their future, fair judging and receiving a financial reward for their fights.”
These announcements follow the appointment of Professor Richard McLaren to conduct an independent investigation into the refereeing and judging of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games boxing tournament. Professor McLaren, who joined the press conference by video call, explained the mandate of his investigation and strongly encouraged whistle-blowers to contact his investigation group directly, so the concerns can begin to be looked into.
AIBA Secretary General and two-time AIBA World Champion and World Champion in professional boxing István Kovács said:
“Boxers have been waiting for a long time to see these kinds of reforms that will ensure their right to a fair fight and a financial reward for their efforts. In addition to actioning the recommendations that come from our independent experts, we are also working on making a number of other improvements; from increasing our transparency and making more information about our policies publicly available, to looking at how we can improve sporting integrity through live scoring and other initiatives. We will not hesitate to make any changes needed to give boxers the sport they deserve.”
AIBA’s commitment to ensuring boxers have a fair fight was further highlighted by the presence of multiple World Champion Roy Jones Jr in Lausanne. He was also joined at the press conference by world-class boxers past and present, including six-time AIBA World Champion Mary Kom, two-time AIBA World Champion Roberto Cammarelle and 2018 German boxing champion Zeina Nassar.
The main goal for AIBA is to become a reliable home for boxers all over the world.

Boxen247.com Amateur Boxing AIBA, EUBC, European U22 Boxing Championships 0
Twenty finals were held on the last competition day at the EUBC European U22 Boxing Championships in Roseto degli Abruzzi, Italy. The gold medals have been shared between Russia, Italy, France, England, Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Armenia and Ireland.
Roseto degli Abruzzi hosted the 2018 EUBC European Youth Boxing Championships. After three years, a continental event returned to the city which is located in the Umbria region of Italy.
The following record number of 41 nations attended the EUBC U22 European Boxing Championships: Albania, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Russia, Scotland, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine and Wales.
‘We admired many excellent performances in the finals of the EUBC U22 European Boxing Championships. This is a fantastic news and shows that the European Boxing can look at the future with great hope and we are optimism about Paris 2024,’ summarized the performance of the finalists shortly the President of the European Boxing Confederation Mr. Franco Falcinelli.
France’s Romane Moulai reached her first big title
France’s promising Romane Moulai competed in the U22 events already in 2018 but she was not the main favorite for the gold medal at the women’s flyweight (51kg). The 22-year-old French girl met with an energetic German, Maxi Kloetzer in the final and she proved her best performance just in the title contest. The smaller German has never stopped attacking in the final but Moulai worked well also from closer and longer distances. Moulai’s uppercuts were dangerous for the German boxer and claimed France’s first title in Roseto degli Abruzzi. Her teammate Caroline Cruveillier defended her U22 gold medal at the women’s bantamweight (54kg) with excellent performance.
“I knew I had to keep focus against my German opponent who wanted the gold medal so much. She is a girl who tried to land heavy punches with good defence, therefore, I had to work from inside and find the best angles. I won silver three years ago and came to Roseto for the gold. I am so happy that I defeated the Italian Youth Olympic Games winner in the semi-final and I believe that shows my progress,” said France’s Romane Moulai.
Germany’s Stefanie Von Berge has done a professional job in her third European final
Germany’s Stefanie Von Berge had an impressive career in the junior and youth age between 2016 and 2019. Following her unsuccessful campaign at the welterweight (69kg), she moved back to the light welterweight (64kg). The 20-year-old German proved a fantastic performance against Hungary’s Luca Hamori in the semi-final and she used the same tactic in the final when she met with Russia’s Natalia Sychugova. Von Berge kept the distance successfully in the first round and used her longer reach well and continued that pathway in the second. Von Berge received a warning in the final moments of the second round but she was too smart for the Russian and won a European title.
“It is my third time being in the European final but this is the first occasion when I could take the gold medal. I never gave up to reach this title; hard work always paid off. The persistence and the stamina were my key words during my career,” commented her first gold medal Germany’s Stefanie Von Berge.
Russia’s duo Anastasia Shamonova and Maria Shishmareva defended their U22 titles
Russia’s Anastasia Shamonova amazed as a youth boxer, she won all of her major championships in 2017 and in 2018. The two-time AIBA Women’s Youth World Champion had the dominancy in the first round against Lithuania’s Gabriele Stonkute who competed also in several big events. The Russian middleweight (75kg) boxer overcame her one-year younger Lithuanian opponent in the exchanges and she proved that she is one of the biggest talents in the world. Shamonova arrived as titleholder to the event and she was able to defend this gold medal in Roseto degli Abruzzi.
Russia’s AIBA Women’s Youth World Champion Maria Shishmareva moved up to the heavyweight (+81kg) in recent months and she advanced to the final of the competition. The Russian girl had a strong final opponent, Ukraine’s Maria Lovchynska, and tried to keep the distance from the first seconds. The Ukrainian was confident especially in the second round and moved ahead to catch the experienced Russian. The final verdict depended on their performance in the third when Shishmareva had excellent stamina and claimed her next title.
Strong Russian performance in the evening session
The Russian male boxers controlled three-in-a-row finals at the EUBC U22 European Boxing Championships. Belgrade Winner Tournament gold medallist Nikita Voronov defeated Germany’s Kevin Boakye Schumann in the men’s middleweight (75kg) first. His AIBA Youth World Champion teammate Ruslan Kolesnikov was a favorite against Armenia’s Hambardzum Hakobyan in the light heavyweight (81kg) and he accomplished his goal, took the U22 title in Roseto. Former AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships silver medallist Vladimir Uzunyan had hard work against Georgia’s Artyom Yordanyan who proved strong development in the whole event but the Russian has been crowned in the heavyweight (91kg).

Boxen247.com Amateur Boxing AIBA, EUBC U22, European Boxing Championships, Mr. Umar Kremlev 0
AIBA President Mr. Umar Kremlev met with the Referees and Judges of the EUBC U22 European Boxing Championships in Italy and stressed the importance of changing the mentality among Referees and Judges as the decision-makers of boxers’ results.
‘First and foremost, I would like to say that I appreciate your work,’ AIBA President Kremlev said. ‘You have to take your work thoughtfully, you have to be cautious and responsible. You represent global boxing, not a sole country. AIBA now is a debt-free organization, and we will invest in our athletes’ well-being. We have to make AIBA stronger together. Those, who do not want to be in the team, who do not respect the rules, will be excluded. We should be the guarantors of fair play for our athletes.’
EUBC President Mr. Franco Falcinelli added that refereeing and judging is a very ‘sensitive question’ for boxing.
‘This area is under scrutiny of the IOC. We have to improve significantly to achieve our goals,’ he said.
Chris Roberts, the Chairperson of the AIBA R&J Committee, expressed satisfaction with the Referees and Judges work in Italy.
‘This is really important that we can talk directly. The Committee is doing its best to ensure the progress of our judging. We will have new courses during the upcoming 12 months on a regular basis. All the manuals will be updated. We will look for young blood and create a new educational system,’ he added.
The finals of the EUBC U22 European Boxing Championships will be held on Thursday, June 24th.

Boxen247.com Amateur Boxing AIBA, EUBC U22, European Boxing Championships, Hugo Grau, Kieran Molloy, Sebastian Terteryan 0
Two sessions were held on the opening day of boxing at the EUBC U22 European Boxing Championships in Roseto degli Abruzzi, Italy. Ireland’s Kieran Molloy, France’s Hugo Grau and Denmark’s Sebastian Terteryan eliminated top opponents on Thursday.
Roseto degli Abruzzi hosted the 2018 EUBC European Youth Boxing Championships, and after three years of break, continental event returned to the city which is located in the Umbria region of Italy.
AIBA set a prize fund of $320,000 USD for the medallists of the tournament with finals on June 24. The winners will receive $8,000 USD. For silver medallists, AIBA provides a prize of $4,000 USD, for both bronze medallists – $2,000 each. The awards are equal for both genders in all 10 weight classes.
Ireland’s Kieran Molloy won the first top contest on the opening day
Germany’s Deniel Krotter won the Cologne Boxing World Cup in 2020 and he joined their U22 national team. He met in the first preliminary round with Ireland’s Kieran Molloy who competed already at the Minsk 2019 European Games and claimed bronze at the European Union Boxing Championships one year earlier. The older Irish and the German started the first round with a similar tactic and tried to find the holes of their defenses. The Irish southpaw landed nice hooks in the second round and he moved a lot into various directions to reach the German boxer. Despite of Krotter’s great finish, the Irish advanced to the 1/8 finals of the men’s welterweight (69kg).
France’s Hugo Grau proved his talent against a tough opponent
France’s 20-year-old Hugo Grau progressed well in the recent two years and moved up to the welterweight (69kg) where he is still one of the tallest boxers. His opponent, Scotland’s Tyler Jolly also has strong international experience, he is preparing hard to get a medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. The French boxer used his longer reach well in the first round and took the lead in each of the scorecards. The Scottish boxer tried to move more on his feet and was competitive in the second round against the new French sensation. Grau started the third round with a great left-handed punch and despite his warning in the final minute, he won his first bout in Roseto.
“I had good feelings in the ring today, I fought an opponent with lot of experience and I overcame him. It was a good bout to start the championships. I wanted to express my own boxing style and use my strength more than to adopt the adversary. I like my next opponent’s clean boxing style, it should be a nice fight,” said Grau.
Denmark’s Sebastian Terteryan proved his technical skills
Lithuania’s Saimonas Banys claimed a silver medal at the 2016 EUBC European Youth Boxing Championships and represented the Baltic nation in all levels of international events as elite and U22. The Lithuanian southpaw had a technician rival, Denmark’s Sebastian Terteryan who is one of their biggest prospects. Banys moved ahead and tried to keep his taller Danish opponent on the close range but Terteryan had better footwork. The Armenian-descent Terteryan overcame the Lithuanian in most of the exchanges and won their contest by unanimous decision.
“It was great to get a good start in the championships. I fought with this Lithuanian rival before, so I knew he is physically strong. I felt that I was able to box well from distance and control the bout. The heat was a bit of factor, I felt myself a bit heavy but I came through to the next stage. I will meet with a French opponent, we know each other from previous competitions but never fought. He is a skilful boxer, so it could be a good contest, I have positive feelings about it,” commented his success 20-year-old Sebastian Terteryan.
The second competition day in Roseto degli Abruzzi
The women boxers also will be starting their campaigns on the second preliminary day of the EUBC U22 European Boxing Championships in Roseto degli Abruzzi. Altogether 45 preliminary contests will be held on Day 2 and nine different weight categories involved in the next session.

Boxen247.com Amateur Boxing AIBA, International Boxing Association, Rio 2016 Olympic Games 0
International Boxing Association (AIBA) has retained McLaren Sport Solution (MGSS), led by Professor Richard McLaren, to conduct a two-phase independent investigation, starting with the refereeing and judging of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games boxing tournament.
The IOC had identified the refereeing and judging of the tournament as an issue in its report which led to AIBA’s suspension. The commissioning of an independent investigation is the latest step AIBA has taken under the leadership of President Umar Kremlev to address past wrongdoings and implement reforms that will safeguard the sport in the future.
“Boxing was created when rules were introduced to ensure fair fights. Any undermining of those rules is unacceptable. For some time, it has been clear that AIBA could do more in following up on allegations of unfairness. Unfortunately, in order to move to a brighter future, we must now also shine a light on AIBA’s past,” said AIBA President Umar Kremlev. “The best way to do this is to bring in independent experts to uncover any wrongdoing so that we can learn any lessons that need to be learned and restore confidence. Professor McLaren has an unparalleled track record when it comes to sporting investigations and I encourage everyone in the world of boxing who may have evidence of interest to step forward and share it with McLaren and his team.”
The report on the first stage of the investigation is expected to be released by the MGSS team at the end of August 2021.
Upon completing the first phase of the mandate, Professor McLaren together with his team will work to identify the presence of any acts of corruption carried out by the individuals involved in past administrations of AIBA. A number of loans and questionable business decisions were previously entered into. While AIBA’s financial integrity and continued solvency have now been addressed, here too there may be lessons to be learned.
A further announcement will be made when a whistleblower line will be set up by MGSS and it is operational. Any individuals who come forward will be guaranteed unconditional confidentiality.
Professor McLaren and his team have made their own announcement about the investigation and it can be found here: https://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/richard-mclaren-to-investigate-international-boxing-810389580.html

Support of the National Federations and their athletes is the priority of the International Boxing Association (AIBA). AIBA received several requests from various National Federations from Africa, the Americas and Asia with a plea to organize a training camp for their athletes, as they prepare for competitions, in the light of the impossibility of arranging such an event in their countries due to multiple restrictions caused by the pandemic. The training camp will be held in Khabarovsk, Russia.
The «Konstantin Korotkov Memorial» international boxing tournament was held in Khabarovsk and all the necessary facilities are in place to stage the training camp, providing all the necessary conditions for the boxers. Entry requirements to Russia are currently relatively unrestricted and teams can easily enter the country without being quarantined.
‘We would like to support all federations, and first of all our athletes and coaches to be fully prepared for every competition. Our main task is to help them to compete at the highest level. Because of that, we are going to organize the training camps and to provide full support for our boxers’, AIBA President Umar Kremlev said.
The camp will be organized from July 3 to July 23, 2021. All National Federations are welcome to apply for participation in the event, and requests need to be sent before Tuesday, June 15.

Boxen247.com Amateur Boxing AIBA, ASBC, Asian Boxing Championships 0
AIBA is aware of potential issues and allegations concerning the judging of certain bouts at the Asian Boxing Championships held in Dubai. AIBA takes such allegations very seriously.
After liaising with several National Boxing Federations, AIBA anticipates the Refereeing and Judging (R&J) Committee will conduct an immediate investigation into the work of all relevant appointed officials and report their findings to the AIBA Disciplinary Committee as soon as possible, to determine whether there is a case to answer or not. If so, the Disciplinary Committee will empower an immediate independent expert review, to determine whether any incorrect decisions were taken due to lack of competence, manipulation or corruption.
Under the new leadership of President Umar Kremlev, AIBA has made clear that it is determined to resolve issues with boxing Refereeing and Judging, with the help of independent expertise. A full independent investigation of previous issues, including the Rio 2016 tournament, is being commissioned. Any officials found to have contributed to unfair fights will become permanently ineligible to serve at AIBA competitions.
President Kremlev and all at AIBA are totally committed to ensuring that all boxers are always given the opportunity of a fair fight.
Further updates will follow at the conclusion at key milestones in the investigation and reform process.
