Twaha Kassim vs. Alex Kabangu

Tanzanite Halle in his home-town Morogoro, Tanzania – 26 March 2022

Former Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) All-Africa Super Welterweight Champion Twaha Kassim, AKA Twaha Kiduku, is, it is fair to say, as tough as they come.

In a professional career spanning almost nine years, he has compiled an 18-8-1 (8) ledger, with his losses, only one of them by stoppage, coming against opponents with a combined 90-4-1 record.

On March 26 at Tanzanite Halle in his home-town Morogoro, Tanzania, he will take on South Africa-based Congolese Alex Kabangu, 5-3-3 (2), for the vacant UBO All-Africa Super Middleweight title.

30-year-old Kassim started out as a Lightweight, and won national honours at that weight in only his fourth outing.

In December of 2016 he lost a World Boxing Federation (WBF) All-Africa Welterweight title fight to current UBO champion Idd Pialari, the only time he has lost to a fellow African.

The following year he ventured up to Super Middleweight and drew with former UBO and future WBO and WBF titlist Abdallah Paziwapazi, starting what would emerge as a heated Tanzanian rivalry.

Going back down in weight, he won the UBO All-Africa Super Welterweight crown in September of 2018, decisioning Zambian Sherif Kasongo.

In August of 2020 he was back at Super Middleweight, but now with a much improved physique, as he scored a unanimous decision victory over Paziwapazi in a highly anticipated rematch.

Almost exactly a year later, and in his most recent outing, Kassim won a third fight with Paziwapazi, leaving no doubt that he is the better man with a wide unanimous decision.

He has gained in the neighbourhood of six kilos since he last strapped a UBO belt around his waist, but not due to lack of training.

In fact, Kassim has transformed his body into a strong Super Middleweight, and he plans to let that show against Kabangu on March 26.

Bulked up and bad, in a good way, he is stronger than ever, but will have his hands full against former IBO title-challenger Kbangu who is a two-time African Kick-boxing champion, tough as nails himself, and has never been stopped.

Promoted by Peak Time Media, the fight will be broadcast live by Azam TV.
