Yamileth Mercado vs. Isis Vargas Result

Gimnasio Rodrigo M. Quevedo, Chihuahua, Mexico – 2 April 2022

Yamileth Mercado retained her WBC Super Bantamweight world championship for the third time, defeating brave and always dangerous Isis Vargas by unanimous decision, in the main event of the show presented by Zanfer and 2M Promotions in Chihuahua, which was broadcast by Azteca 7.

“Yeimi” Mercado (19-3-0, 5 ko’s) was at the forefront, aggressive, unleashing combinations, with rhythm, sustaining from the first to the last round, viz the fizz of the volume plus frequency of punches.

Vargas (11-3-0, 3 KO’s) was a brave challenger, with an effective and dangerous “1-2”, taking advantage of her reach advantage, and “hunting” the moment when “Yeimi” let her hands go, to counter with hard hooks.

The aggressiveness of “Yeimi” was the key difference in the fight, because on several occasions, her right hooks to the face, and her repeated lefts to the body and face, hurt Vargas.

When Mercado drive her challenger on the ropes, she landed power shots that shook her.

Isis had her moments in the middle rounds of the fight. Heads collided, and Mercado came out with a cut on her forehead, which confused her and slowed her pace, so the “Empress” landed jabs, left straights, and even a right cross to the face.

However, “Yeimi’s” corner controlled the bleeding, advising her not to get too close but to release combinations from mid-distance, and the champion complied.
The fight was always exciting, and the last minute of the tenth round was one of fierce, sustained exchanges.

Yamileth “Yeimi” Mercado retained her WBC Super Bantamweight world championship for the third time, scoring an effective victory by unanimous decision, all 99-91.
