Ryan Kelly defeats Dwain Grant on BCB Promotions event in Edgbaston

BCB Promotions returned to the Second City for the first of two nights of action at the H Suite, Edgbaston.

Topping the bill was talented Birmingham boxer, Ryan Kelly, who made a welcome return to the ring after a near two year absence.

Back on these shores after a stint living in Dubai, Ruthless has teamed up with John Costello and made his BCB debut after penning a management contract earlier this year.

The 27 year-old blew away the cobwebs as he worked through the gears against the ever-tricky, Dwain Grant.

His quality really showed at times with his shot selection and footwork but, after so long out of the ring, it was rounds that was key for the popular Brummie and, in Grant as a dance partner, he was able to get them in.

Kelly will be looking to follow up his 60-54 shut out win with another outing before Christmas as he eyes the big fights once again.

Another fighter with his eyes focussed on the big fights is Kane Baker, who was Chief Support. The Brummie Boxer made his second outing in quick succession as he too recorded a shut out 60-54 win; this time over Luke Merryfield.

Baker boxed well once again as he looks to put himself back in the picture for more big nights.

This performance won’t have done his chances of landing a big fight any harm.

Composed and showing good head movement, Baker worked through the gears to pick up another win against a tough and game opponent.

Elsewhere on the card, the Jones cousins both made their pro bows and both Brummie were equally impressive.

Brandon Jones made an explosive start to life in paid ranks as he put Ryan Bithell to the sword.

Jones, under the tutelage of John Costello, looks a real prospect.

After dropping Bithell, Jones mounted a sustained attack before referee Chris Dean rightly waved the contest off after 1 minute 8 seconds of the third round.

Troy Jones, another Costello prospect, took on seasoned Bulgarian, Daniel Borisov.

The 23 year-old also proved he’s one to watch with a solid performance that showed maturity beyond his years.

The Jones cousins are sure to make a noise on the Birmingham boxing scene and beyond.

Instagram sensation, night club owner and reality star turned boxer, Alfie Best, made it 2-0 some four years after making his pro bow.

Best Bested Dean Jones over four rounds to record a 39-37 win on referee Kevin Parker’s scorecard.

Finally, former British Title Challenger, Andrew Robinson, made a welcome return to action.

D’Animal last stepped in to the squared circle when he was defeated by Liam Williams for the Lord Lonsdale strap back in October 2020.

The 37 year-old blew away any ring rust with a convincing 40-36 win over Ryan Hibbert.

BCB do it all again at the H Suite on Sunday.
