Connor Goodchild vs. TBA

Eastside Rooms, on Woodcock Street in Birmingham, England – 29 April 2022

Connor Goodchild is gunning to ensure that his belated birthday present comes in the form of another pro win.

The sequel to his debut when BCB Promotions return to the Eastside Rooms, on Woodcock Street in Birmingham, with fight night set for Friday April 29.

The Brummie’s paid bow came on home turf as recently as February 13, on another BCB offering at the H Suite in Edgbaston, where he outpointed Paul Cummings.

Welterweight Goodchild, of Kings Norton, eased to a comprehensive points success, despite an absence of six years from competitive action, through a 40-36 whitewash scoreline.

He will step back through the ropes keen to replicate the crowd reaction that debut attracted, with a three-figure set of his supporters in attendance.

It was worlds apart from his amateur career, which was spent with the Pat Benson Boxing Academy to the tune of 40 bouts, containing 30 victories.

The boxing builder is now under the tutelage of father-and-son duo Spencer McCracken Snr and Jnr, who are taking care of him as manager and coach respectively.

Goodchild has been backed by new sponsors Vehicle Protection Solutions, Prestige Fittings and Boxing Brit Abroad for his second coming.

He said: “I’m staying focussed, I only had a couple of weeks off after my last one and then it was straight back in the gym, getting into things again.

“I’ve had a decent camp, I’m still young so I feel like a spring chicken! It’s my birthday (turns 24), the week before the fight, so I’ll have to be disciplined.

“It’s part of the package, being a boxer, and I’m used to it from my amateur days. I’ve missed a few birthdays through it! You always need to be ready.

“I enjoyed my debut. I felt a bit nervous, but it was good to blow off the cobwebs and I won every round convincingly. A few people have told me it was quite a mature display.

“You can always find a few flaws, I was catching him and not following up, as much as I should have, but I wasn’t running away either.

“I mixed it up, on the front and back foot, and there were times when Paul (Cummings, opponent) put his foot on the gas and made me work hard.

“We were feeling each other out, in the first round, and Spencer (McCracken Jnr, coach) told me that I needed to pick the pace up, so I added more variation into my shots.

“I put him down, in the third, which I still think was a knockdown, but the referee didn’t see it that way (ruled as a slip). Paul got straight back up and carried on, so he wasn’t that hurt.

“I just kept on going, like that, in the third and fourth round so, next time, I will be looking to start fast and stay like that, until the end.

“It was an amazing atmosphere, which made it even better. I’ve never experienced 160 people coming just to watch me before, so I was on cloud nine.

“They are the people I want to keep on entertaining so, hopefully, I can put on a show for them, pick up the win and then get another date booked in, straight away.

“I’m looking to get out a few times this year and make a statement. If I can get to 4-0 or 5-0, by Christmas, it would put me in a good position.”

Tickets for the Eastside Rooms bill are available, priced at £40 standard or £75 VIP ringside with buffet, directly from the boxers or by visiting myfighttickets.com.
